Pingu, KiwiMarty, Blackthorn, after Hurst!!

Well folks, after the Hurst Castle, no fish fiasco , Dave, Pete and I decided to fish again on Monday evening. I know we are gluttons for punishment!

Anyway, we reached the mark at around 7.30pm and armed with an array of different bait’s (thanks Ben) five sinkers were soon hitting the water. Most of our rigs were a mix of two hook clip downs but I was thinking big. I had a 2/0 3/0 Viking pennel rig out as far as it would go, while Dave and Pete were each using wishbone rigs as well.

As soon as my pennel rig hit the water the bites came thick and fast…but nothing. Whatever was hitting the bait must have been really small.

It was while Kev was paying us a visit, that Dave had a small bite. He brought in what looked like a small Dab, but after a closer look…..yep…….it was a tiny little Plaice. To say I was gob smacked would be an understatement. It should be far too early for Plaice. Im more used to catching these around April, May time. So with no further ado, I quickly changed to a wishbone rig on one of my rods. After twenty minutes or so I too bought in a small Plaice with a very small Whiting.

Dave and I then both had another one each before calling it a night.

The bait for the Plaice was half a ragworm……if you tried to tip it off, there were no takers. Rigs were wishbone rigs with size 4 hooks on Dave’s and size 2 on mine.

One of Dave’s Plaice

And one of mine.

All fish were returned alive.

Great stuff.

Kiwi.

Lovely write up Marty,

True sportsman mate...putting those plump little Plaice back to fight another day.

Sounds like it was a nice night. Must come down again soon and you can show me how to catch em and how to drink em!.
