Dear Dave and Ben,

Remembering this is a friendly forum, I will keep this short and sweet.....SHUT IT!!

Instead of buying expensive tackle, you might be better off getting yourselves a good fish identity book. That way you would at least be able to keep up with the rest of us serious anglers!

Paul me old mate, both pictures were taken within half an hour of each other and your right, it was night.

To aid identification and disregarding the years of experience as fellas have, (four of us amounting to over sixty years) the orange spots were very bright and vivid, they were also much 'tighter' than on Flounder. Several humps were present at the back of the head instead of just a couple and the lateral line was smooth when stroked from tail to head.

I thank you!

Kiwi.

Re: Pingu, KiwiMarty, Blackthorn, after Hurst!!

Love the technical reply Kiwi,
I think I may be subject to the same thing when I get todays photos uploaded. A small roach doesn't have red fins but the colour of its eyes give the game away, also small rudd have the mouth that identifies it.
The forum is not allowing me to upload photos right now but you'll all have them soon.....the species hunt is on!!!!!!!

Cheers, Jules.

Re: Pingu, KiwiMarty, Blackthorn, after Hurst!!

kiwi my friend....

i have many year of experience also and i have worked on netting boats too so have probably seen more plaice in one day than you have ever seen!

the fact plaice have bad eye sight which is why we use beeds and spoons for plaice tells me that in the dark a plaice wouldnt stand a chance of seeing a worm...

also plaice will take squid tipped baits.. which is why when out on the skerries you tip your baits with squid!

flounders on the other hand have been known to feed at night and are often confused as being plaice...

it was a simple comment the time of year and everything turns the odds against them being plaice too as right now plaice are in deeper water spawning...whereas flounder are feeding up ready to move out into deeper water too spawn... also the area you was fishing would help establish if it was a flounder or a plaice
