| southbourne -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- this weeks trip was strange to start with then something real weird turned up. firstly i was gonna take my dad out for a wee dangle somewhere around southampton , but then i got dragged kicking and screaming into work for a pointless and rediculously short evening shift in devizes dad won't fish at night any more so that put the mockerz on that. Hartley and his mate wanted to start early, i wanted to fish milford bank but work and tide times conflicted and so we ended up along bournemouth , i went to meet hartley under the grange hotel - no sign of him , fished it anyway. he had got lost and fished by the pier. i had hoped to meet him for a source of ragworm but he didn't get any so that was that. the tide was ebbing by the time i got there , there was light easterly winds and a good bassy surf running . squids/sandeel/lug & mackerel were the baits i had and i fished them at all ranges on 2/0 pennel pulleys and size 2 flappers. thing were very slow. there was one other angler along my section and he said that he had caught some smoothy pups, school bass and sole + a butterfly thornie. the sole was music to my ears as thats what i had plannned on targeting , if i'd gotten any rag it was blankingly tedious till the other angler left about midnightish, then my hopes got a boost coz i managed to scavenge the last few ragworms he left behind. even this didn't improve my lot , and shortly afterward i started nodding off between casts, at one point wakeing to find the rod nodding a little differently in the waves. eventually i raised the enthusiasm to retrieve it and was shocked to actually find a fish on the end it had taken the last 2 rag, but more than that it was abit like catching that 3 eyed fish out of the simpsons, well weird, has any one else seen a simalar one?? poor piccys due to crap camera but you'll get tha idea. ![]() ![]() ![]() i got my target of a sole , but its bloody nigh albino , both sides white bar the patch on the dorsal side of its head. the beast was returned , and it will be interesting to see if it gets recaptured, the morning dragged on with just a lonely schoolie to squid tipped lug to break the monotony, i gave up at 6am. hartley blanked at the pier apparently __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |
