Milford shingle 1/9/10

After a weekend spent working and reading some quality catch reports with plenty of good fish I was eager to get out. I headed to the shingle bank for about 1600 (H/W), plan was to target bream in the day and have a bash for some raymondos at night plus anything else that might come along.

The bank was crammed with mackie bashers and I thought I'd try a different spot from my usual favourite. I got set up fishing rag on one rod and squid on the other. Had a few bites on worm but couldn't connect with any of them. The squid remained untouched despite usually being top of the menu for the local bream. The worms i had were snakes so i halved one onto a rig with small circle hooks. Had a few rattles, pull down and loads of slack....fish on at last!

It went 1lb 4oz again, my 3rd at this weight from this venue in 3 trips. A few other anglers turned up for the evening for a club comp and the bream were steady for everyone. The mackies were scarce and i couldn't get any for bait, sandeel rag and squid would have to do. I lost two scrappy fish on the dexter wedge, probably big gars.

Darkness came and the bream were still feeding, guys to my right had two nice gurnards on some smelt they had caught earlier in the day. I then had a very nice pull-down which i hit into, felt a fish on. It initially felt quite good but got lighter but my second target bagged and a first. A butterfly small-eyed ray.

It had ignored the sandeel on the bottom hook of the loop rig and taken the plain old worm! Things went quiet over low and surprisingly no dogs showed. The new flood ended the evening at about 10 as the place becomes unfishable.

Enjoyable session with both targets hit also saw a flounder caught Lee! :P
