| I'm left.............bereft!!!! Friday evening after picking Nick up from Chale we met up with Lighty at the car park at Brighstone our chosen venue, but after a quick chat decided, last minute to fish Chale. By 7pm we had done the slightly slippery climb down and was set up. ![]() ![]() One rod was set up with a clip down pennel and bait was either sandeel, squid, mackeral or bluey at distance, the other was a classic running ledger, 6/0 with large lumps of mackeral fished close in. We fished the tide up till high at 3am with only a few pout, scad to show, though Nick managed the smallest Painted Ray of around a pound and also a big mackeral caught on mackeral at night! The tide then turned, magic hour and the Bass started to feed with Nick and Lighty getting bites but missing. Then finally Nick landed one going 2lb 14oz. ![]() Lighty was getting a few good bies but unable to connect, as for me nothing!! Then I get a quick tap on the rod 2 minutes later the same then nothing, couple more minutes again a quick tap thats when I thought a bloody pout or doggie! But after a few more minutes, the rod tapped pulled round and kept going lifting the rest and other rod with it, still sat on my box I grabbed the rod struck and the fish literally dragged me off the box and several feet down the beach until I loosned my drag, it then shot off taking yards of line. I screemed to Nick That I was in to a big fish, after a cracking fight I had it close in, Nick wadded out despite only having trainers and jeans on, he was only feet away with the fish making the sea explode with its thrashing, in his head light he saw a huge Bass, well over 10lb estimating around 14lb, but the next wave hit and it was gone!!!!!!!!!!! To say I was gutted would be an understatement I've caught may Bass before but never had one fight like this!!!!!!!! I put the rod back on the rest and walked off along the beach. 10 minutes I'd calmed down enough to bait up, we fished on till almost dawn but alas no more bites. Saturday this time the 3 of us got down to Brighstone, after a long walk along the beach looking for a spot we headed back to the start of the beach because all the shingle had been washed away and there was no where to fish at high water, with the tide coming up to the base of the cliffs. ![]() ![]() We were set up by 7pm similar rigs and bait as the night before. By 9pm the weed was so bad we couldn't fish so packed up and headed off to Atherfield. Well there was still weed here but we fished on until 2 hours before high when it cleared, despite Nick getting 3 big pout it was quiet, until finally around 4am Lighty had a Bass run and with my help was landed without incident, this gong 6lb 2oz. ![]() Well we had another hour but no more bites we called it a night. |
