Tried Hard Failed Easy !! open weekend comp

Or how to waste 15 hours in a comp,
this weekend was the clubs big open weekend Comp, anywhere from 8pm fri to 5pm today( cant do today family here in an hour so hurried report)

Friday eve

Branscombe
8pm - 11.30/12 ish
all baits, distance, rigs
result = BLANK/NADDER/DIDDLY not so much as a rattle of the rod

and got soaked whilst getting ready


Saturday
Ferrybridge 1pm-11.30 ish

back on the road by 10ish, and mahoosive traffic traffic on way to Ferrybridge, so didnt get there till 1pm
always love this view of chesil on route though


set up over the adelaide quickly and the hunt was on again
1: for a trigger
2: anything( except lsd as they dont count in this comp)
low tide was 4pm and high at 11pm so fishing down then all way back up
beach was quietish to start but very busy later

fishing was agin worse than poor, the guys to left had had diddly

and it wasnt until the tide changed that was saw a few micro bream to save the blank at least
, also for our delight it decided to dump it down with rain for 1/2 hour( glad we turned shelters arround as was proper heavy and went really dark as well. but a great rainbow followed



eventually something a bit different, my first ever dragonette( not sure if count in hunt yet but heres a pic)


baggie also managed a poorcod for points


but apart from later getting a mass of undersized pout( one with a huge bite mark out of it/squid/cuttle??) and then a not in comp doggie that was it, it was desperate
chesil did give us its usual fantastic sunset to cheer us a bit



the big crowd to our 200yrds to our right did manage what looked like a good smoothound( well rich could see it from where we were ), but a long tough day( least said about lending baggie the radio for the baggie game the better as well , to add insult to injury)

a good run home in 1 1/4 hours though after the long yomp round the now flooded fleet

oh well next time, this year i've yet to weigh in in a main club comp and my god i fished harder than i needed too

Good old Chesil mate .. first time ive actually seen any of the wreck at low water.. think the triggerfish have become more fabled and as rare as rocking horse shit tbh.

Unlucky guys. Nice little Dragonet though. I've never caught one either. Found an interesting account of the wreck of the Adelaide here......

Unlucky Dave, I know how you feel I made my maiden trip to Chesil in the week and fished ferrybridge. I saw the peice of the wreck too and to cut a long story short fished from 12 until about 9 for solitary bream and a mackie!

10 out of 10 for effort.. Week off myself next week and planning on hitting the beach then, will start at the other end and hope something has escaped the nets after your experience!
