| whopper at Babbacombe pier I took a young bloke (28) who is staying in our care home down to Babbacombe to teach him the ropes and the jammy bugger caught a real belter of a Mackerel weighing just short of 2 lbs. This was on a float with Mackerel strip and at low tide. There seem to be plenty of good sized mackies about right now and the bigger ones were all caught on floats. Those using industrial methods (feathers) were catching plenty but smaller ones. I really hate people using feathers on such a small pier, I spend most of my time ducking the swishing rods as they slice through the air or untangling my line because they have cast over mine.I would rather catch one nice fish on float with light tackle than a hundred on feathers. this is supposed to be sport is it not? | Re: whopper at Babbacombe pier Damn feather bashers are banned on Weymouth pier after someone nearly lost an eye ! I find once you've caught one on a float it's 100% better than whacking out 6 at a time ![]() __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |

| Re: whopper at Babbacombe pier I've taken to using a 12' 2 1/2lb test carp rod and 20lb braid for Mackeral much more fun than a 'broompole' and six oz lead!! |
