| chesil time to go again , it was yesty afternoon. hartley picked me up about 4pm and we headed off to one of the free carparks along chesil. when we arrived it looked good with a light wsw wind ,bright sunshine and just agentle swell. i was hopeing for great things with high tide due for about 9.30pm and as we struggled up over the bank at about 6.30pm after a quick beer to be going on with we were greeted by the sight of just a few anglers & a boil of bait fish on the surface as they were attacked by the predators below. i wanted to take a piccy but at this point descovered i'd left the sm card for my ancient digicam in the card reader back home hence i'll appologise for the crap piccys posted from my phone for me the first 1/2 hour was pretty much spent sorting a set of feathers for hartley & assisting a guy next to us who was down with his daughter and had only fished once before , so we explained about shockleaders, set him up with a decent set of feathers then gave him an impromptu casting lesson. the evening wore on and swiftly both myself and hartley started boosting our bait supply with some fresh mackerel, with shoals of bait fish being harried up and down the beach, we had set a limmit on 20 fish for bait and the table and things were getting more hectic as the tide rose and darkness aproached,at this point i had one rod out with baits on a popped up bomber rig. the brit (whitebait) were getting regularly washed onto the beach giving a feast for the gulls, at one point i was chatting to the guy i'd helped earlier when a heap of brit were thrown on the beach at his feet , he stopped winding with the feathers just in the surf line to reply and the next wave carried more brit onto the beach, stirred his feathers in passing then his rod hooped over as 3 of the chaseing mackerel took his feathers right under his feet, these were his first fish and to see the grin on his face was worth the effort i'd taken earlier, he and his daughter went on to catch 8 mackies & a couple of pollock between them & left the beach happy anglers. meanwhile, my baited rod had accounted for a handful of pollock, nothing big just pounders, ![]() hartley had been catching the odd scad(horsemackerel) which was bugging me for abit coz i needed one for the specie hunt, but the baited rods accounted for one as darkness set in ![]() eventually darkness fell and it was time to settle down to bait fish first to fall to my hooks was a baby huss, i first thought it was an lsd till i looked closely ![]() the night continued with random dogfish (lsd) captures for both me and hartley along with a solitary poorcod for 'H', & a pout or 2 for me despite some large baits on 6/0 pennels layed out for bass or something special. the ebb was quiet , we were asleep by 3am and away home by 4am. __________________ 2010- species 17,spotted ray poorcod thorneback ray mackerel whiteing pouting dogfish common smut starrey smut bass turbot undulate ray smalleyed ray blackbream common eel scad huss |
