Hi all went to buckle end ov seaford beach last nite on the spur of the mo, grabbed 1/2 doz crabs, 4 whole makkies, 2 wraps of lug, set up by 815pm 2 rods. rod 1 3/0-2/0 pennel loaded up with 1/2 makkie cast out 20-30 yrds, rod 2 2hook flapper size 2/0 hooks loaded with lug on bottom crab on top, nothing till 1/2 past ten then rod 1 kept getting knocks drag was left lose but no screaming reels, reeled in after a short while to find most ov bait gone, re loaded and cast out again, now rod 2 was getting knocks, reeled in game on 1st fish ov the nite whitting, this pattern happened for the rest ov the nite till 1215 when i had run out ov bait, all in 7 whitting caught. Can eny one tell me how to stop whitting stripping my big baits to nothing or is that just prt of fishing.

Re: seaford (buckle)

Whiting feed in large shoals mate..find one and generally you find them the whole tide.
lugworm will definately attract them as will small sections of mackerel !
I guess you have to use bigger baits on a pennel rig - 4 worms on 3/0 hooks and hope the bait stays out long enough to attract summit bigger...OR swap to sandeel/whole squid baits but you're then tempting the doggies in..
I generally fish one rod with a 2 hook setup for small worm baits and dont mind whiting and pout ( keeps you interested) and another rod with large crab or sandeel bait for the odd monster lurking ( still waiting lol )..
Whiting arent everyones cup of tea but gimme half a dozen round the 12oz mark and they are the best eating .

Re: seaford (buckle)

If you ask certain members on here they reckon i actively attract dogfish lol..
Best bait i have found by far is frozen sandeel..
Cut off the head and tail then thread through the body starting at the tail and out about 1/4 inch before the head end..bind on with elastic and watch em come WOOf WOOF
