| Dilligaf does chesil, and chesil bites back So team dilligaf decided upon a trip to a mark on chesil with high hopes of some nice hounds. On the way we stopped at west bexi to see what the conditions were like. Rough was one word you could have used !. Weed all over the place and anglers who had been there for a day or two without much success other than weedfish and wind in their faces. After much thought we decided to head back home and give it a miss as getting to our mark with all the gear was a heavy work and we didn't want to put the effort in only to find that it was unfishable, You can't see our mark until you get there so it was all or nothing. We drive out of west bexi and head left back towards devon... a mile or so down the road Chopper slams on the breaks, into a layby and has a change of heart. We are going to our mark and we make our way back past west bexi, past abbotsbury and the numerous "baby swans" signs along the road. We get to our mark to find it might be a little rough getting across, I said to chopper that it was nice knowing him and did he want to have some of the food that he bought with him as it might be his last ever meal. We get to the steep shingle bank, Possibly the steepest on chesil and hump our gear up and over the top to find that there was some weed and the sweel/waves were worse than at West Bexi. Bivvies were set up facing away from the water. The wind must have been a constant 25-30 mph right in our faces....It was due to drop as the night went on but it didn't...Not one bit ! I baited up with crab, Chucked it out, Left it for 5 mins and bought it back in to see what the weed situation was like... It was fine, Not much was catching our lines at all :) I gave the crab bait a quick squeeze and chucked it back out. 10 mins later my rod slams over and I am into my first starry smoothound of the year... It was still daylight at this point and hopes were high of a very busy night. That was the highlight of the night... No other hound caught, One dogfish each and that was it. We packed up at 5 in the morning and got back to exeter at about 7, A 13 hour round trip for 1 hound and 2 dogfish. I did have one other stonking bite that hit into but my line decided to snap just above the bail arm, Upon inspection it showed that all of my line needs replacing as its frayed...Bugger ! Highlight of the night - My first hound of the year. Lowlight of the night - Chopper sneaking up on me with his finger soaked in crab juice and saying 'have some of this' before sticking his crab soaked finger up my right nostril !. Cheers mate !!! lol ![]() ![]() |

| Re: Dilligaf does chesil, and chesil bites back To right it is, does anyone have a theory as to why this is? Was saying to Leigh that last year was brilliant fishing this year has been well you know, even the lesser spotted weed fish seem very thin on the ground.Think we all need to pray to the fishing gods a bit harder __________________ You should forgive your enemies, but only after you’ve taken the shot. |

| Re: Dilligaf does chesil, and chesil bites back Dunno Chopper. Maybe we're still feeling the effect of the cold winter? Maybe the commercials have had a field day (Interesting point, does anybody actually know how the commercials are getting on this year compaired to last). I keep telling myself there aren't any fish there to catch, but someone not a million miles away seems to being doing alright judgin by the amouth of snoods I've been grabbing this year..... ![]() Was gonna say about the rings Leigh. Take a stanley knife and run it gently round the inside of the rings to see if you have any hair line cracks. __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check.
