| madness hartley arrived thursday afternoon to drag me out fishing, the forcast wasn't too good with high winds and torrential rain to the east while to the west there was predicted high winds and less torrential rain. i'd planned on chesil but that would have been suicidal not just mad. not being to hopeful we jumped in hartleys motor where i said 'go west to try and avoid some of the rain & head to the shelter of lyme regis ' , then i fell asleep. wakeing halfway down to find it hammering with rain, p'raps it 'll be dryer on the coastat 1900 we arrived , it was still raining hard an blowing a hooliey, after the long drive we mayaswell give it a go + neither of us wanted to be the one to call it off. so we fished the end of the fish quay, with the cobb wall holding the worst of the rageing seas off of us but unfortunately not the wind, rain or spray. i def didn't want to be on the cannon wall as it was a big tide which didn't just cut the wall off from the beach at high waater but the webcam showed the tide washing over the walkway at 0920 that morning ![]() http://www.lymeregis.org/webcam we spoke with a few locals who were out enjoying the storm, it was not fun settting up as the howling wind seemed determined to throw everything offf the quay and into the drink. by 20.00 the anglers on the cannon wall vacated as the tide had now come in arround the wall and cut it off. ![]() shortly afterward i had a knock on one of the rods and retrieved 1.5 points in the form of a bootlace eel, that promptly tied my 3 hook flapper into a ball of snot , it was about this time when the swells, tamed by the cannon wall, started to lap over and across the fish quay and high tide wern't till 2200![]() ![]() we beat a retreat to the lee of the old toilets at the end of the building and half hartedly fished on for a while before finally decideing enough was enough. as we left we passed 2 anglers sheltering in the leantoo's and fishing betweeen the boats while further back along the cobb wall the waves were crashing in and spraying sheets of water 30ft up and over onto the walkway. soaked through , 1/2 drowned & pissed off i wish i'd stated home on the sofa with my beer , still not a blank __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |
