Smut Meet 2010 the report

Or god knows why I’m not asleep, but sitting here and typing

Well as you can see I’m back after a great Smut meet 2010

The venue was hayling island and after a not bad drive rich and myself got there at 1.30 ( via McD's and a suntan lotion shop)

to find ian , gerry and Jp 300yrds left at groin 27
They had already had bream and a schoolie bass,
So after some jiggling around with the car into a private road( we did move )
rich and I managed to haul our sizable amount of bait and gear( why do we always take so much) over and set up in the next groin where the views were better
so I was quickly set up, rich took the leasurely approach and socialized

I will probably get all the arrivals in the wrong order so i wont bother just to say there was a fantastic turnout of 13

And it ended up with
bassman rob, lee and fisherdan all in groing 29,
paul( spahill) and some nutter called S&m in 28,
ian gerry and jp in 27,
myself rich and gremlin in 26,
and Gordon and harvy in 25

During the day I even banged out an expectant stinger bait and had a bream for points on a 3/0 hook the greedy so and so


And even found a groin with TJ’s name on it


Come the dusk and all switched to crab baits
Within half an hour of high tide, Greenheat was the first in with a hound of 40 something cm, but a happy ian as his first from the shore even though it’s the 4th smut meet

Then I managed one at 68cm

And soon after lee had one but smaller again
We all fished pretty hard but that seemed to be it, nothing was happening on the drop
Midnight came and gremlin ( who obviously knows something) disappeared along with any bites

The beach zombies came to visit my area twice !!! and the second lot didn’t leave till 3am , when lee and party gave up as well
I think I managed half and hours kip but that did mean we were rewarded with a cracking sunrise


Bacon butties at 5.30 almost made me feel human again


And then it was pack up, and reassembled in the carpark where I was chuffed as a chuffed thing to get this years trophy, as those 3 hounds were the only ones caught dureing the night


And paul got his travelling distance prize( obviously tailored for the welsh aha


It was love at first sight



Farewells made and it was then the slog home but a fantastic drive back in 3hors and a smidge( thanks to baggie as I was shot to pieces, but my 5 min nap in car seems to have killed the tiredness, hense still up!! )

A massive thanks to ian for the organisation ( steve who i believe sorted the trophy) and to all who turned up,to make it such a good event as ever. its always great to meet forum members old and new( even S&M ), sorry if i didnt spend much time with some people, but we were unfortunately a tad spaced out, and when i was crab bait fishing i wasnt leaveing the rods far

One year the smuts will really play ball for us

A cracking report , well done to all those that took part

Great report dave , cant believe your still awake absolute fantastic meet , great to meet up with some old faces and some new , we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves despite the lack of hounds , plenty of micro bream to keep us busy though i ended up with a few small bream , bass around the 8 oz mark and my attempt at a smutt alough it was a common , so another 1.5 points for solentavon




Oh well the company made up for the lack of fish just how its been going in the last 2 weeks on the south coast , well done to ian for the organisation again this year , and to the lads who drove miles to fish hayling hope you all hada a safe journey home

Crackin report Dave !
I managed to tear myself away around 3.30 as it was taking 10 mins to walk just to cast out lol..
Enjoyed the meeting ( I think you can tell from Daves report he actually fancies me )
A MASSIVE WELL DONE to Paul for making the long trip for not a lot ..To Iain for all his hard work and to Dave for actually winning the event with his silver LS Dogfish ..

I didnt get to meet everyone due to 5 hours of bait gathering that my hands are now suffering for and then hunting down chips that meant i didnt really set up till gone 8 !
I let 400 harbacks go somewhere outside Ada's front door with an look on their faces "what do you mean were good smutt bait" ! and was home by 4.30...bait is cooking nicely on the landing so might have to go back out tonite

Fishing was naff but it was still worth all the effort


I did manage the worlds smallest Bream so atleast its another species

Ditto what Dave said really, t'was a cracking day/night, shame about the fishing, but hey, it's a Smut meet, that's the norm now!

Thanks to Ian for organising and to Steve for the trophy and to Dave for, erm, nah sod im.... The bugger won!!!

Sorry I didn't get over to you guys a bit further down... I was fishing hard once Dave pulled his smut out and when I did eventually get my head down for a couple of hours, I woke up and everyone had gone! .

Next year....

Right, what to do with the bait mountain then I have a plan.. Right after I've slept a bit.....

Well done to all who made the meet....am still gutted i couldnt make it but hey ho...nout can do about that now! looks like a good day was had by all even though the hounds didnt come out and play ball....:/ maybe hit em on the right night at the right place next year!...so much hit and miss these hounds....plenty at bracklesham the last couple of nights.

Great report pingu and well done for picking up the 2010 smut trophy!!
