Thumbs up another first, small and pretty. seatown 30/6/10

well last night was another where to go session
and after a very diverse trip due to roadworks we were at seatown soon after 8

we could see weed in the water ( but a good surf running though) and met some people leaving saying it was bad, but looked like they had been mackeralling and we were going on the deck, so we headed left and past the main bunch of fishermen and set up

1 rod went out whols squid ( not too far) , other size 4 with some pretty dead ragworm for anything( well bream really)

and yes the weed was bad but if a raft didnt hit then the gear stayed out ok
, the guys further down beach left again beaten by weed, were we mad???
maybe our hopes were the same as the st george balloons fallorn on the beach

bite detection was allbut impossible due to weed though but its a 50min drive to get here and wherelse to try so lets stick it out for a bit

so i was supprised and well chuffed when i brought this leviathon on the scratching rig, not huge but a first for me, and boy what a pretty fish

my first ever red mullet

then it became a game of who could catch the smallest fish and i think baggie won

just on high tide 10pm , the surf and the weed stopped and we also found ourselves alone on the beach
so i sent out a frozen crab, and result a smoothy about 2-3lb ( sorry about blood, but it went back strong)

after that it was just pout , despite our best efforts for a ray or bass
until we packed up at 11.30 and Baggie took the rally route home in 35min

a tough night
god do we need a stir up to clear the weed

oh well no fishing till next wednesday now

dave

Always nice to get a first of a species, I fluked one whilst bream fishing last year about the same size. Got very excited when i saw a flash of red in the water instead of silver!

Saw a few red mullet last month on holiday when I was snorkeling, they stick hard on the bottom using their two barbels to look for food.

Nice! I think we are getting that stir-up tonight, judging by the weather.

Well done on sticking it out.
that little mullet must be getting fed up of having the proberbial taken out of him by all the other fish.
It must have been a long swim back from S. Africa.

Small and pretty huh???? Maybe Dave's made a lifestyle choice!!! I must admit, I've been slightly uncomfortable with the way he's been prancing around the beach lately.... Mind you, they say the female pheromones help with catching the bigger fish, so..........

T'was a decent night, if a little slow.... Dave on a roll at the moment and is pretty much taking care of the species hunt on his own! I thinkI've contributed a thick lipped Mullet and a rainbow so far this year!! Keep going mate.
