Charmouth 21:00-01:00 - Seaton 01:30-04:00

On the hunt for the ray, and egged on by pingus big fish, Team Dilligaf and another chap called Mike went to charmouth last night.

Armed with 15 quids worth of live sand eel, Squid, peeler and hermit.

We arrived and had a quick look around. I remember Pingu saying... On an outgoing tide, Fish to the left, on an incoming tide fish to the right . (I've not edited that one little bit)

As we go there the tide was going out... So a strange decision was made to yomp all the way to the right and fish the eastern end of the beach

We got there and set up. All along the beach were mackerel chasing white bait, some mackies were no more than 2 feet off the shoreline, bubbling the sea like I had not see since this time last year at chesil.

Whilst we waited for the darkness to set in, Chopper had a few practice casts with his new Zipplez Primo's and Penn 525's. He was hitting some pretty good distance on his first time at trying the pendulum cast for years,... Not bad for an old bloke :)

The darkness had set in and Mike was first into the fish with a rockling... He came bounding over like any other guy who just had past 40 could...Slowly.

He was excited... . "its a baby ling isn't it" he asks... "nah mate, Just a rockling" we reply, He was showing his inexperience of sea fishing... Thats what happens when your only allowed out to fish 4 times a year ;)

As the night draw in. Some oldish man appears along the beach with a net and a generator.. He walks past me, Chopper and gets to mike, Mike stops him and asks what the generator is for.... "Im going moth catching" the man says. A few jokes were had once he left about how there are plenty of moths stuck to the front of Choppers van, He said he had a few big ones on in number plate :)

10 mins later the man appears again to tell us that there is a big shoal of fish 400 yards away from us.... Then promptly walks back to catch his moths.

The night is now here and hopes were high but the tide was receding, it was going out very very quickly and was uncovering alot of rocks.
Chopper was getting rather pissed off at losing alot of gear... But don’t worry I will get him a new toy, pram and some more dummies for his 40th in a few weeks :) ;)

The fishing took off for a while whilst some water was still in front of us. Mike was into a nice 3lb bass which he decided to have for tea tonight, I had two pouting.. One of them gave me a very very nice fight, It wasn't a big fish but the fight left my hands shaking with the effort of reeling it in !.

The water was getting further and further away now, I had a couple of nice runs on whole squid but neither of us could connect with anything other than snags..... Will have to listen to Pingu's advice the next time won't we lads ;)

Chopper and Mike went on a walk to find some water that did not have huge rocks in them... They both came back about 10 mins later. Mike was walking funny but i did not ask why, Chopper had a smile on his face.

The decision to move 200 yards towards the car park was made as the guys had found a spot that looked like it had some water and not too many rocks, By the time we packed up and moved... The new place was looking like some kind of lunar landscape. Chopper didn’t even bother setting up his rods, Mine came back in quickly, Mike said he might as well pack up as well then !

So we moved again and back to the car park. Had another look around by the edge of the river mouth and we see some glowing eyes on the shore line. A fox was looking for a free meal and it did not care that we were watching him. I'm sure chopper wished he had his .243 with him at that point.. He might have landed that fecker !

The decision was made to move to Seaton. We had tons of bait to use up !

Of we went and got to Seaton, It was very foggy on the way there and wasn't much better when we got there.

As we were unloading the car out of no where Mike spots a ghostly hooded figure floating along the beachwalk way, It gets closer and closer and Mike was crapping himself, The sight of a skateboarder skating silently along the walkway at 2 in the morning in the mist with his hood up gave us all a chuckle,.... It was one of those "WTF" moments in life !!!

We make our way down to the beach, Chopper sets up one rod, I set up another and Mike doesn't bother.

As the tide was now on its way in,Chopper takes the walk with his new rod down to the shore line and whacks out another good cast, Sits back and waits. I do the same but my casting is shockingly bad so I rarely get into the fish !

We wait for a while and then Choppers rods shows some action.. .I was hoping that it was the first of many smoothounds,.. .I think Chopper was just happy to have caught a fish.

Team Dilligaf had caught its target species. A small eyed ray of a couple of pounds :) :) :) :) :)

The relief was evident on Choppers face, He was now a happy happy man, A new fish for the year on the first time of using his new rods and reels.

Well done mate :)

We packed up at 04:00 after no other action.. I wouldn't have noticed any bites at that point as I was asleep in my chair

..I'm sure team Dilligaf will go back to Charmouth but use the advice given, The eastern end of the beach looks like bass heaven on an incoming tide :)

Great post and a funny story, Are you sure the figure on the skate board was even real, because it could of been the Ghost of Seaton that's been sighted around the town for many years now.....
This sounds like another sighting!!
Well done with the fish guys!!
Tight Lines.

I dunno about Ghosts, but whilst waiting in the Kebab shop I've seen one or two sights that'll scare the living daylights out of you, I promise.
