| gj's holiday marathon fish i was mad keen yesty and made a start way too early and arrived at seatown, just west of west bay. about 3pm, at low water, despite it drizzleing when i left home the south coast was dry and the winds favorable. view east- ![]() veiw west- ![]() that left me about 6-7 hours to kill till high tide and darkness, which is when i'd guess my targets of ray and huss might show, but seeing as i was on the beach i may as well chuck out some scratching rigs while i was there, 3 hook flappers & wishbones were baited and cast forth. bait wise i had frozen mackerel, squid, sandeel, pealer crab, + some fresh ragworm i'd picked up in west bay. bites were just occasional with both the first two captures being good old dogfish but next was a better result with a starrey smoothound homeing in on the ragworm bait. ![]() it was only a small one of around 3-4lb but they are definately preferable to dogfish. i fished on through the afternoon which was only punctuated by the occasional dogfish the venue was starting to bore me , there were increaseing numbers of people arriveing to fish and i had a fair ammount of bait so i wasn't worried about the carpark gates getting locked at 21.00. i would have stayed all night. but what did bother me was that i'd packed no food , so i left for some scran at west bay about 19.30 i'd got bored of seatown , probably should have returned for the best of high water but instead went to one of my favorite beaches - burton bradstock. started about 20.30, and the onslaught of dogfish continued this beach has been good to me on the ebb in the past and i was quite happy to fish it right down here. the next fish of interest was , i think, a specimen fish, so unusually big from the shore, around southampton anyway, i just had to weigh it and take a piccy- ![]() 1lb 8 oz of jumbo pouting anythings better than dogfish. just before low water a big double knock signalled somethingelse other that dogfish, attacking the last of my frozen crabs a quick strike and a short battle and in comes my first ' bar of silver' for the year , better than the 6'' checkers like i usually do. ![]() 3lb 8oz, quit the beach at 3am as out of bait. after 12 hours fishing __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |
