| Re: Burton Bradstock today Thanks Richard, The sentiments are greatly appreciated. Here is the report. The thing about fishing is that it isn't really about catching fish, not really. It's about having shiny tackle and keeping it neat, it's about the excitement of planning your next trip, or the next purchase, and about getting out on the beach, enjoying the great outdoors and the company of your mates, and the pub afterwards. Which is why I'm not so bothered that I caught absolutely nothing. Really, it was a disaster, before I went I thought I'd clean my gear and make sure I was fully prepared. So I gave my best and favourite reel a good dousing with WD40 and then dropped it on the hard garage floor sufficiently hard enough to break it. So I packed it all away in it's original box and thought I 'd pop into Weymouth Angling Centre on the way down to the beach and see if it could be repaired. So after battling through the traffic in Weymouth and finding a parking spot I then realised that I'd left it at home anyway! By the time I got to the beach it was nearly 6.00pm, on a rising tide. We fished until 9, using feathers for Mackerell and ledgering lug & Rag. No hint of a bite and nothing on the feathers. The beach was quite busy with anglers, mostly feathering. I only saw one person catch one lonely mackerell in the whole time I was there. However, I did speak to another angler who said "You should have been here at the start of the week, people were pulling bucket loads out, however, it's been a bit rough the last couple of days and that has driven the baitfish out of range." Every cast brought weed on the line and the hooks, the water was coloured and I could not hold bottom because of the amount of weed accumulating on the line, so I think we were unlucky with the conditions. We probably should have moved to Abbotsbury, maybe that would have been cleaner. Also spent an hour spinning this morning, also no joy. |

| Re: Burton Bradstock today Thanks guys, I hope so. Steve, I expect the reel fix is going to cost me, I'm sure the guarantee does not include protection for dropping it. I'm going to check out your catch report now - and see what fish look like! |
