highcliffe 24th may

myself & hartley were eagerly waiting for a bait delivery for a trip to smutland .
but it didn't turn up & so we had to raid my freezer for iffits resulting in 1/2 dozen mackerel fillets , some squid + some dodgey looking sandeels.
with no crab or worm i thought it best to give the eastern solent a miss .
and so we set forth for highcliffe, somewhere that i did't get to fish last year
anyway got there at about 7pm with the last 3 hours of flood to go,
the wind seemed to be e/n/e sortof with the sea flat and just a little ground swell,
the weather was dry and bright with not a cloud in the sky , just a bloodygert bright moon
squid/mackerel baits were deployed on flappers pulleys & wishbones but things i thought looked a little dire withbrown snotty may water scum around the rock groynes.
but that mostly drifted away and i was surprised by the number of anglers fishing the groynes and after dark i could see a few lights along barton for a while.

first blood went to me - not brill but it'll do for specie points



good to see one albeit palm sized as i failed on last years turbot hunt

this raised our spirits with the hope that something should show on dark , even if it was just doggies,
but both hartley & me lost fish , and saw few bites till we gave up at 2am with the tide dropping hard.

We are of to Barton on sunday eve (30/05) so i,ll let you know how we get on, as it is just down the road from where you fished , nice to see a Turbot turn up.
