crabs get us smutty on the beach.Branscombe 23/5

well it seems ages since fished with rich, just family stuff and work( seems will be mucking up next week as well), but the time had come after a 2 week delay and we were off

still undecided where to go it was good old Branscombe as we both had a dozen crabs( and it really is time for the hounds isnt it )

went left aver the river( thats broken through again) and whilst i slung out sandeel , rich went to the edge and bingo first cast, hes into a mackeral



all was a bit quiet untill nearly low water and dusk, then my sandeel brought in the obligatory dogs grr, and rich gets a better mackeral on the spinner

the may rot, may water whatever you want too call it was horrible but cleared as the tide flooded, which is when whallop riches rod hoops over and hes into a good fish, which unfortunately smashed up the gears on his reel and escaped, but whoop whoop the FISH ARE HERE

so it was onto the crab and rich gets first blood with a nice starry of 4.5lb
( rich has picture) this actually ended up as heaviest fish as well, but the next hour and a half was mental, and even with missed bites we ended up with 9 hounds brought in
and rich with more points with a common as well




what a great night, even me getting a wellyfull when trying too return one( more concerened about fish didnt see the wave)
we also had what we are both sure was a huss( wont add points if not|)


a fantastic night, just what we both needed

sure we will be back again soon( maybe even tommorrow night( i got the pass rich)

and no overtrousers or windprrofs

A cracking and much needed night all around really. Having not made it out all last week, it was nice to finally see the start of the summer species (Devon country show finished on the Saturday Leigh ). It was a great start. My first cast of the summer with a dexter and the spinning rod saw me close the bail arm and lift straight into a mackerel. Must have put the wedge right on it's nose!

After loosing what easily felt like the best fish of the night, the hounds came on the feed properly. We finished the night with a few each and a great sense of relief that things had finally started to happen. Now if we can just match the effort we put in throughout the winter…..

Thank god for that.

Fish ID time please: I'm fairly sure the doggie in Dave's photo above and again here is just a doggie, 'cause the nasal flap was single and not split, but the nashers on it had to seen to be believed. They were really evil! Made me wonder is all…… and as I’ve never had a Huss….

Oh and can I just point out that Dave's new camera phone has the brightest flash I've ever seen, so it was not so much that I was worried about the fish being a shark Lee, but more real concern that my retina had been permanently scarred. Trust me, Tiga headlamps hold nothing to Dave's phone and as it's been a while since I've had a fish worth taking a photo of, so it was a new experience for me!!!
