Gilkicker Fort Tues 18th May

Managed to get up to the Fort and fished just to the right of it in a pretty strong tidal rip and at times struggled to hold bottom - mainly due to the ton of weed that caught every knot,swivel and hook possible !
Bait was crab( small hardback mainly ) rag/squid cocktail and sandeel/mackerel wrap fished on a 3/0 big mouth pulley pennel and 6oz breakaway.
No bites for the first couple of hours but about an hour and a half before high water i pulled in a small starry smoothound pup followed quickly by a doggie on the other rod..no bites were seen on either due to the constant tugging of the weed .
Then a double shot of jumbo pout - one on each hook of the pennel and finally another starry pup....
The water was like glass and the wind non existant and i spent the last hour playing hide and seek with two foxes on the beach before heading home at 5.45 a.m ..

all in all a nice cosy night with a few fish but nothing spectacular

I did have a snap off on mackerel head and guts whch resulted in a huge ping and me going straight on my backside - probably a garden center of weed but who knows

Told you not to fish it on anything bigger than a 4.0 tide good effort mate , and a few fish amongst the weed , were back to stubbington tommorw night

coped with the tide mate but that blanket weed was a b******d to deal with !! good luck at stubby - i'll phone for a status report

I know what you mean mate , bloody nightmare when it comes through , good to know you coped with the tide , must be brave and fish bigger tides there

every report is now gonna contain some obligatory wildlife shots - not sure where i'll find any deer but last time i fished there were a couple of old deers walking dogs
