 EASTOKE , HAYLING Sun 16th May Decided to fish Gilkicker on Sunday but due to the size of the tide and the weather plus 4 hours of bait gathering , i ended up hitting my usual venue ( groyne 34 this time ) and the fishing was , to say the least , slow ! Fished with an array of baits including prawns,peeler,hardbacks,fresh out lug and some nice dug rag plus squid and mackerel but the fish had other plans . The tide was high for about quarter to 1 in the morning and although it was a spring holding bottom was easy and there was relativley no problem with weed ( the small slimy stuff that coats everything was there but wasn't hampering ) .. Two novices to the left of me fished until around 11 and went home fishless and a guy to my right ( a local who walked to the beach with his kit  ) fished till first light without as much as a single bite !1 pot noodle later and at around 2.30 am i thought i saw the rod move  - my initial thought was the boredom had got the better of my imagination , but no , another little few taps then a whack and 2 minutes later a fish to save the 100% record for 2010 !!   Coming home i decided to take one of my now famous wrong turns but decided to cut throught the New Forest and was stunned to see it at 6 am on a glorious morning - listening to nothing but a cuckoo ( not Lee ) and watching the ponies warming the sun on thier backs made the whole trip worthwile and i now look forward to going again this Tuesday   Steve __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting     |
