Branscombe again 5/5/10

Last night was the wednesday league at branscombe

13 members fished from the centre out to the left end of beachhuts and 1/2 way along right hand huts
the conditions were flatter than a flat thing ( so much so i even put a float out ) on total neap with a 11.20 high

the fishing in daylight was more than poor with 1 mackeral to brian

it wasnt until the last hour when eventually there was a flurry of dogfish to a few and a rockling( + i caught only my 2nd ever starfish[on 2nd successive trip here as well])

the eventual winner was Carl with 3 dogs and a rockling

I ended up with 1 dog and I may have had a smoothy bite( or a very enthusiastic dog) on the crab rod but def was a poor night really

roll on next month at seaton when the fishing must be better, this has been a long winter,( not 100% about doing weekend open comp as soo poor locally, may just wait a week, or go back for the carp on the float on sunday eve)

Re: Branscombe again 5/5/10

Ditto what Dave had to say really. It was a hard day at Branscombe all around. I managed to get to the beach for 3pm and for some deranged reason, decided to yomp up to Beer head. I walked on the sand about half way there, but as soon as I got back up on the shingle it was hard work, so I picked a spot just shy of the rocks at the point and settled down (Following a brief panic involving my lighter and fags! )

I had the whole of Branscombe beach pretty much to myself and spent a fantastic 3 hours sat in the sun, totally untroubled by anything fishy. I fished mostly close in with worms and bluey baits and even had a few rattles on poped up eel, but no real knocks as such. Baits were coming back exactly as I sent them out, not even the crabs were interested, but it was still great to be out there.

Time came to get back to the car park for sign in for the comp, so I decided as I'd not used it before, I'd take the path back. Big mistake. Whilst it is definately easier to walk on the compacted path than it is the shingle, the beach route certainly does not include the sort of inclines that the path does. I had to stop twice!!!! (See reference to smoking earlier!) I'll take my chances with the shingle from here on in I think.

Having got back and stuffed a butty down my neck, I headed out to the left of the car park to fish the comp, pretty much as Dave describes. I had a few rattles on the worm baits which could have been crabs (These TTLD's show up every little knock. I love 'em. ) before the a doggie saved the blank 5 mins before the end. Not great to be honest, but a recurring theme recently.

Ah well, I've now got a mountian of bait to use up so there are more plans a-foot. Sooner or later something HAS to turn up doesn't it?

Unlucky dave and rich. I've not been sea dangling for a good year now. Maybe a cat trip to anglers paradise is needed.
