| Brighton Squid I was on location in bay 48 on Brighton Marina East arm by 6.45 am yesterday to try and pop my squid cherry for 2010 after a couple of unsuccessful attempts earlier in the week. It was a bright morning with just a slight Southerly breeze and surprisingly cloudy water. Setup usual squidding gear - carp rod, bait runner and sliding float rig, ending with a squid jig. I spent bloody ages working the float, changing jig colours, sizes and so on. Didn't get my first and only take until 1pm - about an hour before HW. Luckily for me another guy I know and his mate had a drop net as I'd left mine at home. A minute or so later, after Richard guided the net-handling Nick, my first landed squid of 2010 was on the deck and what a relief it was too. The rest of the day was dead, no further takes at all, not so much as a sniff. I left the marina by about 4pm and once home, the days catch was cleaned sliced and fried for tea, there's nothing quite like straight from the sea onto the plate freshness. ![]() __________________ vicfisher.co.uk |

| Re: Brighton Squid Well done on your 1000th mate! Difficult to describe the taste cos it all depends on how it's cooked really. If cooked on it's own (no sauces or whatever), providing it's not overcooked (bad thing - very rubbery), it's quite sweet, I suppose the nearest I can think of is scallop meat. As for bait, the heads can be good winter cod bait. __________________ vicfisher.co.uk |
