| Exmouth area this weekend Hi All we're off to see me dear old mum this weekend in Exmouth and was hoping to get at least one beach session in. The tide times look ok for the evenings so was hoping for some guidance on where to go. The catch reports have been pretty bleak recently so we would be happy to catch anything! I presume that either end of Budleigh would be favouites but is there anywhere else local worth looking at? Any help greatly appreciated Thanks Simon |

| Re: Exmouth area this weekend Personally speaking Simon, it's been dire for me locally since before Christmas. As you say, Budleigh might be worth a chuck, but personally a trip to Branscombe would be my perferred option. I've heard of a least one decent ray coming out in the last week down that way. If it really has to be proper local then Orcombe point with a bunch of lug for a Bass is about your best bet. Let us know how you get on. ![]() __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. | Re: Exmouth area this weekend Hi All Just a quick update on the weekend. Following the ‘where to go’ advice from BaggieRich I planned to go to Exmouth beach between the rocks and Orcombe point, my ten year old was coming as well so I thought better of getting to Rodney bay with all the steps etc especially as I haven’t splashed out on expensive headlights yet (see other thread). Saturday was a beautiful day and I nipped down to the tackle shop in Exmouth to get some lug but they only had rag, which to be fair did look in top condition. Armed with a few quids worth of worms and some frozen sandeels we headed home before enduring a day at the shops. Come the allotted hour my daughter opted for Britains got the X factor talent especially as it was getting a bit nippy. Any road up, I got the eels from the freezer, loaded up and headed for the beach. The sea was pretty calm and nearing high tide so I set up and got the bait out. Hmm thought I, these sandeels have certainly thawed out quickly (you can see this coming) and almost inevitably the rag were a solid frozen block as I had put the wrong newspaper wrap into the freezer…. After defrosting the rag in seawater they were all dead and not much use for anything. I used them anyway in a eel/rag/eel cocktail and settled down to watch the sunset. Well anyone out on Saturday will confirm that it was bl**dy cold, added to which I didn’t get a single bite although on every cast the bait had been stripped from every hook. I’m not sure if it was crabs or what, as there was no tidal flow whilst I was there. So nothing caught and a lesson learned, but still a good night out and much better than watching the telly. Here’s to next time! |

| Re: Exmouth area this weekend Oi! Frozen worms is my trick! Although in my defence, normally more to do with a dodgy bait fridge/freezer than getting the wraps mixed up!!! Unlucky Simon, next time you're out let us know and we'll meet up somewhere. Glad you enjoyed yourself anyway! ![]() __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen.
