Oddicombe 2/1/05

I went down to Oddicombe this morning only to discover Kiwi, Welly, Smoothy, Talis and Pingu.

They got there at 7am and I arrived at 11am. From 11am to 4pm there was not a bite between us (12 rods in total out there). Then just before they started packing up Pingu caught a really nice Flounder:

We kinda had half of the beach to us which really pee'd off a lot of dog walkers but made me smile after treading in 2 different piles of dog poop not picked up the beach.

I was determined that my first fishing trip in 2005 would not end in blanking because I really felt it would jinx the whole year. It took me 8 1/2 hours before I caught my one and only fish. Never before have I been so pleased to see a dogfish

It's a weird beach to fish. The sign you sea by the waters edge is a rockslide warning and the beach is closed past that point. Some of the best fishing is past that point so you tend to move beyond it sometimes.

The beach is covered in dog poop because no-one can be bothered to pick it up. You also have to keep your bait well wrapped up or lose it to dogs.

best things are it's deep, you don't have to cast far, you can park for free and best of all your car is about 10 yards from where you fish from
