Re: Oddicombe 2/1/05

Our impromptu gathering started when I met Andy (Talis) at around 07:10 this morning, parking next to his car with some vintage Thin Lizzy blaring on my CD player, I felt compelled to leap from my car and start head banging.

Kiaora Talis, I yelled. How’s it going dude. Happy New Year.
My yells were met by his.

After getting my gear down to the beach we sat, had a smoke and a coffee.

Within an hour Shaun and Kev had arrived and the day started to take shape.

Shaun was the first one to catch with groans of “here we go, the crafty burblers at it again”!! It wasn’t long before my only fish of the day broke the calm surface of the sea. Another Ballen, a little larger than Shaun’s at a respectful 3lb 4oz.

I know a couple of pictures were taken, so if someone posts it, here would be a nice place for it to go. That’s right, just here. Thanks guys!

That was about it fish wise until we were about to pack up for the day, when Dave (Pingu) caught a lovely Flounder, which weighed a nice 1lb 8oz. His daughter was overjoyed when he telephoned her. She has been waiting for dad to catch and cook a nice flatfish. I know she’s gonna love it mate!

Another picture of Daves Flounder.

Shaun's Ballen.

Thanks chaps for this unexpected get together. It’s always a pleasure.

See you on the beaches.

Kiwi.

Re: Oddicombe 2/1/05

i think dave has fished that beach before he met us on this ere forum..

i mean he has fished it a dozen or so times and had 2 different types of flatties from it...!!!!

i have fished it thousands of times and only managed one tiny one

i did get to fish torquay harbour today with kev he caught none but i had 2 flounder both around the pound mark which we returned alive to fight another day.
and on 6lb line and a carp rod they fight

I would hate to see that sight

I always release everything except mackerel and the camera is always with me for the nice fish. Bet some people blame the shore fisherman for that.

Hey Dave and Si. Whilst walking along Paignton prom a couple of years ago, I discovered that one of the local charter boats had dupped it's unwanted fish at the mouth of the harbour. By morning the heads, tails, guts, yes guts, and assorted whole fish had been washed up on the beach.

Can you imagin the stench when the sun got on that lovely lot. This being a prime Blue flag beach as well!

To this day, I have not used this charter boat. Disgusting.

Kiwi.
