Beach Casting Rod n Reel.

Hi, envious of all those of you who cast a country mile, I have decided to treat myself to a new rod n reel. Anyone recommend a rod and reel (upto £200 combined)

Depends on what type of ground you are fishing over But in general one combination I would suggest is the Sonik SK3 Rod (13ft 4-6 oz) which is around £109 and if you use a Multiplier then a good value Magnetic braked unit is the Okuma MG20 or MG30 Unit (Got mine from Amazon for about £43) so you can get a half Decent Kit for just over £150

Re: Beach Casting Rod n Reel.

Hi Chippy,

Unfortunately, there is no answer to this question. No one knows where you fish from i.e. what coastline do you use.

You will then receive an opinion of what they have got and how much it cost.

Idealy you should take a trip out to your favourite beach and ask the guys there to let you have a few casts with their rods and see you get on. You will have to remember that those folk who cast a fair distance have probably had some schooling in doing so. Distance comes with the right technique and lots of practise.

Do you need distance? lots of fish are only a "good chuck out".

Might I also suggest that you pay a visit to your local recreational ground and try casting the length of the football pitch, about 100yds or across it, about 50 yds. that will give you an idea on the length of your cast, but on the beach is a different story, you have bait, wind and sand to contend with.

Regards

Drew

Re: Beach Casting Rod n Reel.

As I am an old crock with a stiff shoulder I can't easily manage a Pendulum cast, instead I just use a long, forgiving rod and do an OTG cast using a fixed spool reel. (Grey's Tripplex 16ft and an old Penn Surfmaster 70 reel).

It took a couple of sessions with Colin Olver, a casting coach, before I could regularly break the 150 yard barrier - but now I know how to load the rod properly and let it do the work instead of me, casting is much easier.

IT IS!!!!!!!!!!

Too many people think buy this rod or that rod and cast 200yards EASILY....rubbish

best thing anybody can do is attend a casting club or get a decent PROVEN caster to put them on the right track.......practice good habits.....distance will come

most reasonable rods these days can reach a distance that most people can only dream of........good technique ,with a good REASONABLY priced rod n reel is worth much more than a bull sh***er with the latest n greatest!!!!

what is fishing at distance or long range ??

Re: Beach Casting Rod n Reel.

Rod - Daiwa Supercast STS12PM (multiplier version, 13ft and FS versions also available) £139.99 Spotty Dog Tackle. Alternatively, I also recommend the Abu Suveran SX 13ft (only problem is that it doesn't break down evenly for transport).

Reel - Everyone has their favourites just steer clear of cheap reels as they break. I like Abu 6500 series
