| 2 days, 3 locations and a fish or three Friday - Team Dilligaf went to Greenaleigh in north devon. Just a word of warning about this place. The tide races in, Its a very shallow beach. We also had to cope with patches of quick sand ...Stand still and you started to sink. Target was anything other than a blank and possibly a turbot. Got there mid morning ... Weather forcast said 9mph winds and sunny. After a few hours as the rain came down and the wind picked up we said 'lets try ladye bay'... It did dry up towards the end though :) Reeling in the rods Chopper starts shouting at me.... I knew he had done it again. The last cast curse.... Fish on. A small turbot. [IMG] [/IMG]We continued to pack up and head to Ladye Bay.. The walk back up from Greenaleigh beach to where we parked is a killer, We had to stop 3 times to get some oxygen in our blood. I think Chopper , being a non smoker who smokes muttered the words "Fu&*^!g Hell". Back to the car and off to Ladye Bay it was. The drive was an interesting drive from north devon to clevedon. If you are the owner of the mobile home that you decided to move in a wide load convoy during the busiest time of the day through the roads of north devon, Stopping every 50 yards to let oncoming trafic negotiate your wide berth...I hate you. DO IT AT NIGHT. We got to ladye bay and walked to the ledges, Fished with crab, lug , squid and hermit crab. Not a bite in the 3 hours we were there. We did see a few codling caught...Nothing bigger than your hand though. Someone fishing a for yards away did some kind of fancy pendulum cast... He had obviously forgotten to check that the third section of his rod was attached snuggly to the 2nd section. . .. His rod tip went seaward. He didnt look happy, Probably because he could see it floating slowly past everyone. We left and headed back to exeter before I hit the town for a few beers...Knackered ! Saturday comes and we had agreed to give exmouth sea front a bash... I have no idea why we agreed this. It just seemed the right thing to do. We got down there at about 18:45, ....Where the weather man had promised us light winds. As my hat was blown off and bait was rolling down the beach I asked Chopper what does the Met Office know about predicting the weather ? They eventually got it right.. Come 22:30 (low tide) the wind had dropped off but it made it seem colder to me... Either that or last night Alcohol was starting to wear off. Again we tried different baits to no affect., 12:00 comes along... "one last cast" Chucked it out, Left it, "Rattle rattle rattle". If you give Chopper the slightest hint that there are fish in the sea he will stay there for hours, Sleeping with one eye closed and one eye on the rod... I knew then that we would'nt be leaving any time soon. ;) This was the result.. We had one each,..Saving our blank !. I will leave it for Chopper to tell you what he also caught, I dont think it goes towards the species count though mate ? [IMG] [/IMG]I christend the new Greys Impulse that I am buying off Chopper and he christened his new bass rods last night with a fish each and some points for Team Dilligaf. |

| Re: 2 days, 3 locations and a fish or three. Cheers Leigh, drop me in it again mate. The other stuff Leigh didnt mention about were 2 shore crabs both of which were hooked. Also when I had a lovely little pull round on the rod followed by the sound of a splash in the water, there we were thinking something had gone right, only to find a Oyster catcher had flown in to the line. After a gentle little persuasion and a quick unwrap off it went on its way, none the worse for its little ordeal. Did think about a pic and taking its weight as this was a pb on this species. __________________ You should forgive your enemies, but only after you’ve taken the shot. |
