Avon beach 3/3/10 Fed up at blanking during the day after the elusive flat things I needed a night session to catch something. I was also aware I needed to start pulling my weight on the species hunt as everytime I log in JP has caught another course species while the sea section is blank! I decided on Avon beach as it's a favourite scratching beach for the time of year. I arrived to a brisk easterly wind and a nice surf running. I soon found out it was going to be hard night though, the surf was full of the worst kind of weed, the fine red stuff. Even with the tripod at maximum extension I couldn't keep the lines out of the surf and the weed took an age to clear from the line. Only way I could get around it was to hold the rod as high as I could at the edge of the surf. Some nice easy scratching session this was turning out to be! Soon had a couple of tiddlers a basslet and a pouting. ![]() ![]() As high water arrived I could finally get away with using two rods high in the tripod and more importantly sit down in the buddy and enjoy my can of stella! The fish let me get on with it too as they dissappeared for the night. Thought something might turn up at the start of the ebb but nothing did except the weed. Time to go and a session about as enjoyable as a trip to the dentists but at least I opened my account for the year!

Re: Avon beach 3/3/10 That's the place Rob, first time i've fished it and i thought it looked very bassy. Think i'll avoid it during Easterlies in future as most of christchurch bay's weed had ended up there!

Re: Avon beach 3/3/10 Can be mate but mainly little stuff from experience, i've fished mudeford run as I live just round the corner from there & had quite a range of little mini species, silver eels & suchlike before the summer starts & the boat traffic gets to mad. Generally quite slow though. Stanpit marsh is the place if you want bass but I think ringwood angling club have got that venue now. Have you fished milford?& is it any good? __________________ So many types of fishing ... so little free time...

Re: Avon beach 3/3/10 Yeah Milford shingle is a great venue, loads of species and some real big fish too. You have to make sure you get the tides right though, fish smaller tides over high and on the ebb.
