| Re: Langley Point Tonight Just back from langley point. very calm sea tonight and my black lug were in a very sorry state after defrosting them.High tide was 10.27 so was there in good time fished a one hook flapper which is my lucky rig. In fact its so lucky i have used the same trace since i started sea fishing at christmas. This one is a veteran of about nine sessions so far! Somehow i knew that tonight was not going to be any good. Second cast i had a rattle on the end of my rod and was into a fish, it was a bit foggy out in the surf and after a few seconds my catch came up the pebbles. Dont know what it is called but looked like a wells catfish. Then disaster struck. My lucky rig was no more! I was fishing next to one of the wooden breakwater thingy ma jigs and launched a black lug into the distance. So chuffed with the amount of line peeling of my spool and as it was foggy i did not notice i had actually cast the other side of the breakwater thingy ma jig. I had a big old knock on the rods and started playing something out in the distance. Everything locked up shortly afterwards i had the fish at forty odd yards and it was only then i realised it was the other side of the beach then .....ping... my lucky rig was no more! My lug were now looking even worse and i knew tonight was going down hill fast. I learned a lot of things tonight 1. Make sure you cast in a straight line 2. Never believe tackle shop owners who say frozen lug are just as good as fresh ones! 3. Only go fishing if you see the foxes on the beach. If someone can tell me what the catfishy thing was than that will be another thing i have learnt too! |

| Re: Langley Point Tonight Unlucky about the "lucky" rig. Sooner or later you'll loose gear... Only way to prevent it is to not go fishing in the first place. I think my record is 8 sets of lost gear in one session. ![]() One thing about keeping a rig for as long as nine sessions, make sure you check it before you go out every time. If the rig body (Or snoods for that matter) are damaged with kinks or crushed sections, be sure to replace it. The line strength of mono drops dramatically with any sort of damage and this leaves you open to cracking off on the beach, with potentially fatal consiquences. Also, swivels can rust and make sure those hooks are sharp. I replace mine every 1 or 2 sessions. I don't want to loose that fish of a life time for the sake of a 20p hook! The fish does sound like a rockling BTW. Well done for getting out!!! ![]() __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check. Bait…… BAIT! | Re: Langley Point Tonight The lucky rig is alive! Been down to the beach at low tide and guess what i found. One length of leader one gemini lead and the lucky rig all intact. Found the lot impailed on the wooden breakwater thingy. One of the gripper wires snagged around one of the posts. My line gave way at the leader knot. Told you it was a lucky rig!!! If anyone fancies a few hours tonight send me a PM high water is about 11.30. Have been making up some home made worms this morning. Will be trying them out tonight. They are 11mm soft halibut pellets strung on a eight inch hair to look like a big worm. They smell great see if i can winkle out a fish or two later |
