Dartmouth,East Portlemouth,Slapton report So the day began with pick up at 12:15 from exeter and it was down to Dartmouth embankment with a few prawn traps in the vague hope of catching some live prawn for our trip to East Portlemoith, An hour passed with the traps down and it was time to see what we had caught............ 100's of crabs was the answer, Some the size of a 50p coin, Some the size of your hand and bigger, ....and not one prawn... The crabs were emptied out on the embankment and immediatley they made there own way back off the embankment into the river.... Lemming style !.. One by one they would drop of the edge for a 15ft free fall without a parashute :) So off to East Portlemouth it was.. Armed with 5lb of squid, 1lb of salted lug, 2 packs of sand eels, Some frozen peeler and a lot of hope... We arrived by way of Sat Nav and also checked out blackpool sands on the way.. all looked calm, no wind, no rain and the odd bit of blue sky !...Through the smallest of country lanes that you could ever fit an astra van down. .. Up Down, Up Down, Up Down the hills we went and finally arrived at EP.. 1st mark was Ditch End.... But... as the tide was coming in we could not find a way to get down there. I checked out a small track signposted 'ditch end' whilst my mate parked up and stayed with the van, Down the track I went to be greeted with water and no way of getting onto the beach, .. Bugger ! So off to the other end of EP we went.. Parked in the car park, Sat, Had a fag, Sat some more and said 'slapton sands it is' and off through the same country lanes we headed off to slapton. Arived at slapton at 17:00 and finally managed to get a bait in the water, HighTide was due so we were not expecting to have to move much ... oh how wrong we were, Two hours after HT had passed the water was still pusing us back up the beach.. Our kit was pretty much in the car park by this time !!!.. Very strange. The wind had picked up and was running along the beach.. Then the rain came. My mate had 1 whiting and I blanked (other than the crabs at dartmouth!) 20:15 came along and that was enough of that, Gear was packed up and another smoke smoked before we set off back home to Exeter. It was good to be out with my mate again, not been out for a while but ending the year on a blank is not so good... Unless we go to oddicombe tomorrow where I hope something will bite on the mountain of bait that we have to offer to fishies !

Re: Dartmouth,East Portlemouth,Slapton report Great report Leigh - unlicky on the big B, you will have to put it down as "one of those days". Makes the good days better and strengthens the resolve. Or possibly... just makes one more pigheaded __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:>

Re: Dartmouth,East Portlemouth,Slapton report Unluckty Leigh. You did the right thing at EP. Personally, I can't stand the place. Hours and hours fished down there, with some very good anglers, and I've never seen a good fish come out...... I understand that it does happen (I've seen the photo's too!), but it seems to me that you've got to put some serious effort in to get any sort of reward out again. What with it being such a PITA to get to, mean's it's not high on my list of favouite venues!!! Hope you get out before the New Year mate. I'm destined to end on a blank too now.. Ah well... ![]() __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check. Bait…… BAIT! Sh*t, where’s the bait?
