| Re: Fishing Muddiford Met up with green-hearted Ian at 10.30 and headed for the coast... pick up some ragworms at Christchurch Angling on the way. That was the plan. No worms there , so we tried the Bait Shack (which was closed) and Davis Tackle, who wouldn't have any for a few days. We'd have to rely on squid and mackerel, although I did have a few worms left over from the previous week's Southampton flounder meet, which were clinging on to life.A quick MacDonalds and we were ready for action! Low tide at Mudeford can be a bit tricky, so before going there we spent a few biteless hours at the neighbouring Avon Beach, and moved to Mudeford Quay at about 3pm. Now I've fished with Ian twice before, once at last summer's smut meet, and recently at the flounder meet mentioned above. Each time, Ian has blanked and I've caught a flounder, so it was no surprise when I hooked another one this time. (I've fished at Mudeford loads of times, but have never had a flounder there before). I borrowed Ian's priest to administer the last rites to my fine catch, and it seemed to succumb to the savage blows without much resistance. Flatties can be reluctant to let slip their mortal coils, so I was pleased to see this one cease all movement. True to form, Ian achieved another blank, his mind now concentrating on the kebab which we'd promised ourselves on the way home... We hung on until just before high tide, the lure of chilli sauce was too strong to resist. An hour or so later we were in Warminster's fine kebab shop, and took our hearty and nourishing meal back to Ian's house where it was washed down with a whisky mac. Marv'lous ![]() Back home, I gave my fish a quick rinse, but was rather surprised to see its gill flap still moving. Was this fish still alive...? Anyhow, I popped it in the fridge, and that was that. It's now 2pm the following day and I've just been back to the fridge to get something, and ... you guessed it ... the fish it still going!!!!! ![]() At least it'll be fresh when it's time to go under the grill ![]() |

| Re: Fishing Muddiford Yep, kebab was most succulent! I'm taking my angle grinder to the flattie in the morning if it still refuses to lie flat and go out with dignity ![]() |
