| Christmas Eve 09 With shopping done and browny points earned four anglers set out in search of solent cod,  along side waiting for two of the crew, made up by Ray, Trev the cod so called as he caught 13 this season, Simmon and myself. Forcast F4 dropping all day luvly, as we sped through the solent in wasn't to bad but when we cleared the the IOW 3m waves on the beam, uncomfortable is an understatement, we told oursleves and each other "its dropping" and pushed on to the mark just passed the nab tower. Anchored up and baits on the bottom rattles started, rattles stopped, simple bait gone, scale down rig to 2o hooks and Ray came back with two of the culprits.  Pin whitting. We fished on, big squid baits four to six squid on 7o pennel rigs, bites were non stop whitting or dogs, Trev said "thats better" stood up picked up his rod and waited for the bite to develop, fish on.  Codling about 7lb number 14 then Trev. Ten minutes later Simmon "this is better"  "thats my first cod" me "this season?" "no since I began fishing" I was stunned as He's been fishing for twenty years, Top man Simmon. My turn next,  Biggest of the day at around 10lb It was 2.30 and nearly slack water so we head for home,  We had some banter at Rays expense, Codless ect... his reply, make it good 'cause it'll be my turn next.
