Southbourne - Sole central.

K & I took advantage of the break in the weather to have an evening on the South coast.
Already seen that GJ was thinking of Southbourne so we thought it was a good idea & popped down on the off chance of meeting up.
Was a lovely evening - gentle breeze from the east (cliff to the north), fishing in my fleece till gone 11, didn't even bother putting up the beach shelter.
Arrived just before sunset (looked better than this)

& setup 2 carp rods with 20lb braid for tiddlers & the big boy for anything large at range.
Fished 1 down, 5 up & 1 back down or something close to that.
Bites from the up & over wishbone on lug&rag from the start.
Stopped releasing after the second chuck, too heavy a snood???, so 4th chuck I didn't clip it & this little fella came out to play

Switched to a 1 up 1 down with loads of bling and continued to catch more sole on both carp rods, with a slight preferance for rag over lug. Fish got slightly bigger but nothing large turned up, all (lost count) went back in the sea.
Camera died again - think rechargable batteries have had it.
Had a few rattles on the distance rod (sandeels in Dvice), then hooked into a pouting.
Sole & odd pouting continued to show untill high water on light rods, then it went quiet. Pulled in an undetected tiny sole at 01:15 when we packed up.
Fantastic drive home, hardly anything on the road.
Great night - only dissappointment was not meeting GJ again (note to self... let others know what you plan).

surely not that much of a disapiontment,
if i'd a known i'da come down ,
on the drive down i was still umming and aaahing last night, as the time was creeping on and the tide wont wait. in retrospect i should have allowed time to get to more distant marks on the bank to fish the tide up.

will b working in andover over night next thurs , so fishing night has been moved to tuesday 13th.

preliminary thoughts are-

hayling, though its a sml tide
hurst,

maybe to light a snood, twisted around rig body as you cast ??- most likely i recon. i use 30lb min.

were you useing this on the distance rod , if clipped down rigs are just lobbed out a little way especially into shallow water there is little impact and the rig has no time to compress & distort to release the snoods

which clips were you useing- some are better than others . imho , impact sheilds r the best but with small hooks sometimes the bend of the hook also sits around & jams on the bead that releases the hook from the sheild.

Re: Southbourne - Sole central.

RE: snoods
I retied them the day before - am sure I dropped to 20lb from 30lb amnesia - Now I know why I originally tied them in 30lb.
It was also on the close in "lobbing" rod, having previously used it at distance at Chesil so this may have also contributed..... The clips are big thick black plastic ones - come in a yellow & white packet. thb I don't like them, on the first rigs I bought there were some lovely bent metal ones secured by clear silicone tubing, but I have never seen them for sale .

Unfortunately I am hampered, at present, on midweek fishing trips by a horrible thing called work (sorry for swearing). The next weeks holiday isn't till December.
