Red face god knows how we got away with that( lyme regis 6/10)

last night we ( rich and myself) were hopeing to get some fishing in to chill out,
I hadnt been out in days and rich had had a horror of a day and needed to get out as well

the weather forcast was dry but strong S/W wind 20mph gust 35/40
( thats usually the kiss of death for east devon) so where the hell to try( especially as i'm still on crutches and need easy access)

my idea ( and only place i could think of )was the inside the cobb wall at lyme

so 8.30 we get to the cobb, get permission from the RNLI as no harbour master arround, and rich drove me down to the huts, where we see the waves crashing over the cobb wall, and the end of the victoria pier was proper blowy and would have been so uncomfortable

but we found a sheltered spot near the huts and after getting set up and rich returning car to carpark ( result 40p overnight after 9 now) we fished the harbour entrance instead

2 hook small hook flappers each and rag ,this was such comfey fishing, ok nothing massive ( well lots of pout really) and a good sized eel for rich( we were hopeing for a flounder or possible sole) but think the massive tide killed that, but it was so nice to get out and put the worlds to right over a beer and occasional fish

11.30 and it was over for a kebab in seaton on way home, where we were nearly pushed over by the wind ( must now have been steady 35 with gusts of 40+), sea was properly violent as well

so our little sheltered spot earlier was a winner
drive home was scarey with debris on road everywhere

much needed by both of us , the fish will fatten up for next time

thanks rich , you are a diamond, and if you need/fancy a beer again later shout( i am sure could make myself available)

dave

Indeed, well done, often when the weathers rough you gat the best fishing, or some of the most memorable times, if not not the best catches.

Still can't believe we got away with it as well as we did. We were sat right next to the rods, nice and tucked away out of the wind and even managed some sort of reasonable bite detection. There were even fish! Okay, small fish and nothing very exciting, but just to have been there at all was an achievement. If the wind was blowy on the Cob, the front at Seaton was proper "lean into" stuff and the surf made it pretty much unfishable.

A bit of a result in the end for a much needed fish and a beer.
