| First Bass Well I've been popping down to the coast for a while, I think its been 7 trips in the hope of catching a bass, although I don't turn my nose up at other species, wrasse mackies scads etc. Finally I managed to get one. It came during a frustrating session at West Bexington, we went left on arriving, normally we walk to the right of the carpark, but this time we chose to go left. Properly equipped, kelly kettle, tea cake, bbq garlic burgeers etc we decided that we would be fishing into the darkness, easier now the nights are drawing in. We did the usual feathers for mackies to have as fresh bait, and had nowt, bit of a shame as anglers to the rigt and left, albeit 60yds away had a few. I did get amackie on sand eel, which I though migt produce a bass, indeed I had bought a couple of packs with bass in mind. As the sun went down; ![]() I (being a coarse angler by trade), set up a 'margin' rod. A 2lb light carp rod, 12lb line and a nigt float just of the breaking waves. The float was being tossed about in the swell, so when I had the bite, I was alerted by the rod slipping across the shingel, and on the end was my first bass, putting up a hard scrap, and I recon weighed about 2-3lb. ![]() As I am not sure what the keeping size is, and sorry for the pic being upside down, (it may have been an aussie bass) it went back, also felt a bit swollen about the belly, as I don't have any experience with bass in the flesh, except at the fish counter, I wonder if the fish was possibly spawn bound, so it went back to get a bit bigger. Anyway, thats a result for me. Delighted. |
