| Where's the Ping when ya need him? Went out last night on my first trip since the Ping man did his high dive act of a six inch rock! Very odd. ![]() Without Dave to push me along, I was even later than normal and didn't get setup until about nine. First cast gave a familiar bite, which resulted in a decent Pout just shy of a pound. Second cast gave a familiar bite, which resulted in a decent Pout just shy of a pound. Third cast gave a familiar bite, which resulted in a decent Pout just shy of a pound. ............. Seventh cast gave a familiar bite, which resulted in a decent Pout just shy of a pound. This was starting to get silly, so thoughts turned to live baiting. Trouble was that all the fish were just a touch too larger for live baiting, but I did evenutally manage to get one a little smaller.Live baiting was a disaster. The plan was to slide the bait down the main line, hopefully to get it a bit further out. First problem was than when casting the lead out, I left the mag full off and ended up with a massive birdy which meant the bait was on the beach for a full ten mins before being sent out. Second problem was that because Charmouth is so shallow, when I'd slid the bait as far as I could, it was still only in about 2 inches of water!!! Gave up live baiting and went back to bluey fillet in the back of the surf. Which resulted in this: 8lb on the nose. Not great photos, but at least you get a sense of scale from the fag packet! (Where's Dave when you need him??? ) Putting her back was fun! Because of the above mentioned shallow water I had to roll my trousers up and get me feet properly wet!! Ah well, getting used to that now!Slowly packed up and got home around 2am. Lessons learnt *********** 1. Live baiting in shallow water is tricky. 2. A spare pair of socks might be a good idea. 3. Fishing without yer mate is weird. ![]() __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check. Bait…… BAIT! Sh*t, where’s the bait? |
