stokes bay,alverbank. 3/9/09

i really wanted to fish chesil but it seemed a tad too drafty for my likeing and i hate driveing down there to find its too rough.
so plan 2 was put into effect and i fished stokes bay instead after a wee dig about raceing the tide in sotton for worm.
i managed to scratch out 25-30 b4 the tide beat me.

i got to stokes at about 21.00, the weather was dry but the wind howling in from the wsw,+a nasty big bright fullmoon that i'd been curseing all the way down.
the sea was quite choppy but no big surf as sheltered by the isle o wight,
high tide due in about 23.00 spring tide due in fri/sat/sun.

bait supply;- blk lug, rag, 3 froze crab & squid.

rigs ;- 3 hook flapper hooks size 4 4 sole hopefully.
pennel pulleys, 1 with size 2 hooks, the other with 2/0's.

wacked out the pulley with 5 oz gripper but used just 3oz grips on the flapper to try and stop me casting too far.

the first cast with the flapper got weeded to buggery which really p**sed me off coz i thought for a minute that the amount of weed may make it unfishable but that was not the case it was just a little weed drifting by in close at this state of the tide which cleared later and was never a problem for the rod fishing at distance.

1st catch was my beach buddy as it attempted to escape after a particularly strong gust of wind & so i had to rebuild base camp a bit more securely heaping an extra cwt of shingle on the flapps. that solved it.

by high tide i gave a little silent cheer as some cloud cover had rolled in and turned down the dimmer switch on the moon, which left me more hopeful.
shortly afterward i had a slackliner on the flapper rod.

mission accomplished

that was the only fish to come to the flapper all the rest were on the pulleys
1st the obligatory pout, followed by a snotty, neither of which i could be bothered to photograph.

by 3am the rain had set in, i'd had another couple of jumbo pout but the ebbing tide had brought weed with it, that fine red stuff known as gorilla pubes. ive tried to fish in that b4 so promptly went home.
