Budleigh - New Species

Went to my (not so) favourite mark tonight... Blanking Budleigh !...

Fished into the river on the back of the spit... so not sure what you would call this... River Fishing or sea fishing.

The tide was racing in ... as was the weed.

A lot of tap taps all night between 3 of us... The two people I was with blanked but did miss some nice bites.

I managed to hook into a new species on my list..... twice.

Two eel's ... Bloody greedy buggers aren't they !!!. ones took a pennel pulley rig with a large mackie fillet and the other was so deeply hooked that I had to cut the line as close to its mouth as I could before releasing the little snot bag back into the water.

Note to self.... Dont cast to far as you will be fishing into the reeds and marshland !

The one that got swallowed was a running ledger so I only lost a hook and bit of line... The other was a moon-fleet angling pulley pennel and was fine to use afterwards..... Right up until I cast to far across the river and into the reeds/marshland... where I snagged and lost the lot

Re: Budleigh - New Species

Good one for catching the eels and new species, keep trying the river mouth it is a good spot for Bass but you have to put the hours in, try spinning or plugging on a incoming tide if the weeds not to bad.Budleigh has been hard work this year though. I'm off eel'in tonight i think there great! I use a light spinning rod or a carp rod depending on the venue, and a baitrunner, a good eel will scream off on a run but they can be hard to hit sometimes.I use the deepest bucket i have (around 2.5ft) put the eel in tail first keeping the tenison on your hook snood, then unhook with a disgorger. The odd one misbehaves but works for most.
