Re: get the prawns out

I normally use a thin wire hook of 2/0 size and just tail hook the prawn so it stays alive.

Re: get the prawns out

no no , when i say tail hook I mean you pass the hook only through the second segment of the tail. I'll see if I can find a drawing or something for you.

Talking Re: get the prawns out

prawns make an absolutely superb bait for wrasse, and they are cheaper than crab, the best thing is that they dont even have to be well presented, i have used some dead ones before that i just ripped in half, sometimes they even go for just the shell when the rest of the prawn has already been eaten.
just freeline them into a gulley or hole or something, positive results every time if you are doing it right and have a decent spot!

Re: get the prawns out

hi pixy
a pic would be great if you could sort one out
i heard that there is a great spot for bass fishing not too far from here
wait until late evening on a high tide and use live prawns as bait, float them down stream and bingo

Re: get the prawns out

This thread has inspired me to buy a prawn trap see bottom of page of this link PRAWN TRAP

I thought at that price it's worth putting down from the pontoon at the boat berth in the harbour. Next day - see what fresh bait (prawns or weavers ?) we have to use.

Anybody got any experience or tips of using such a trap?
