Re: get the prawns out

oh ok cheers Paul, yeah the ones i meant are at least that big. How is the best way to present them on the hook, do you put a couple on at the same time? and even dead prawns will work?

Re: get the prawns out

Well match the bait size to the hook, a small prawn, use a size 1 hook, a big prawn, or two or more a size 1/0 or bigger, depends on what you are targeting,

Generaly for thorneys i use a size 1/0 crab hook with two prawns on.

Dead ones will still work yes, in the summer i collect them and freeze for the winter, as this time of year they go.

Re: get the prawns out

Amazing bass bait in places where they will feed on them e.g. esturies and rivers.

Iv also had dabs, rockling, good wrasse bait, pollack, stuff like that really.

Re: get the prawns out

Prawn is a fantastic bait, the live ones that is. Catch them in a drop net etc and use for Bass. It can be fantastic...
For the local guys here in Devon...using live prawn in around the Teignmouth estury can be deadly. On the Shaldon side of the estury my 9 year old son catches the prawn in his net around the rocks. I then hook them to a long flowing trace with just enough weight to sink below the surface and cast into the tide flow of the estury. I let the line pay out and let it drift down with the tide. Hang on to your rod as the bites can be really hard. I have had some good fish this way. I fish like this in the summer but Bass seem to be here for most of the year so I night give it a go during the winter??????

The Indonisain prawn seem to be an up and coming bait that is supposed to be a s good a peeler, if not better. The prawns are not cheap but not as expensive as peeler and can be bought from a fishmonger (not a super market) I have yet to try the fresh Indonisain prawn but looking in the fishmonger they do look very tempting.

Bottom line is, if you can get live prawn USE THEM!
