Thumbs up how to get a smile on Pingus face, BASS at Charmouth 2009

please note this is a 2009 thread not the 2008 baggie thread

well i cant believe how i blagged this pass yesterday ( baggie already had his full weekend pass , freely given no less by his lovely mrs[although I did see him buy flowers ]) but after call from rich at 12 noon , diveing to tesco( other shops are available) a bottle of wine and a bag of doritos and dip later and i was in baggies car for 1.20 and we were heading east( no plan at this point except we fancied lyme harbour floating for mini species later) and so it was we ended up at charmouth
the beach was quite busy and a great surf running

we headed way left to avoid tourists and fossilers(some were sending their kids way up the cliffs, and we saw 2 small rockfalls whilst there please think first )

it was glorious to be out, just social fishing, and then even better whallop my rod went and I think the whole beach heard nme shout "OHH YESS!!!!" as I landed this bass, ok not a monster but just a taker at 41cm

that fish meant masses to me, as its been 18months or more ( prob more) since I last had 1 and this wee beast has probably cost me hundreds of pounds in bait( and the mrs was beginning to doubt i was fishing for food at all)
soon after rich also had a schoolie,as too small duely returned to grow on

after a while we shifted as planned off to lyme ( via the icecream van even though baggies not allowed ) to try the minispecies
set up on the cobb , baggie was floating useing my spinning rod( least said about the disaster with his rod 10 mins earlier the better) I meanwhile had the beachcasters out with 2 rigs with size 4's and bling looking for plaice or anything small

the main target was plaice (bit late maybe) or bream( dont know if have here but hey)
when the left rod nodded
I started winding hey something small here, maybe weed, untill it got to the wall and started kiteing about a fair bit, and then we got the shock of the day with this sole( a def pb for me at 1lb dead on

I was well chuffed again

the initial semi plan to head on to branscombe became , lets return to charmouth and see if theres a bigger bass over high and as dark fell, so it was wewent and fished ontop of the landslip as waves were at base

unfortunatley the fishing was slower than we anticipated , rich soon had 3 bass in , this being the best

also pout , rockling and a rig ruining silver eel, whilst i had a doggie at the same time as he had the eel and I stupidly said would prefer the eel( eer no I wouldnt)

weed picked up after the tide turned and i lost the only set of gear or the day to a 20lb weedfish( unlike the 7 sets sat night)

left late and back home 1am ish

a great weekend , hard but good in the end.
a nice yet short river session river fri eve, a hard and wet comp at bossington sat eve, and pleasure fishing at charmouth yesterday.think i aught to stay in later( ooh b**ger its darts night)

thanks for all the driveing ,company and the beer rich, def my turn next

dave ( off to start prepping bass and sole veronique)

Nice report mate.

It was a looong weekend, but like you say, good company and at least a few species hunt points kept us going. It would have been nice to see a bit more reward for our efforts (and the 200+ miles driven) but hey, that's fishing. Besides, it was all worth it just to see the rolling surf at Charmouth on Sunday afternoon. If ever a beach looked sexy......
