Lulworth and Chesil

Well I'm mainly a coarse angler, but a couple of times each year I venture into salty waters.
I spent every summer holiday with reletives in Dorset, so when alate eve chat with friends got 'round to Dorset, we hatched a plan to visit and fish Lulworth Cove and maybe some of chesil.
WE get ther after a little bit of mis map reading. Somewhat suprised at how much Lulworthj had changed, new centres, buildings, but it had been donkey's years since I was a nipper, quarter of a centuary at least.
We were pleased to see no one in the rocks by the mouth of the cove, and like intrepid explorers we made our way out there.
We set up with spinners and feathers for the mackies, which refused to play.

We did get a few splashes from the waves, but most importantly we had a cooling sea breeze, which was a delight, its topped 44 degrees in one of the greenhouses at work recently!!!
We also set up some shorter rods with the idea of catching a few wrasse or other fihy's of rthe species hunt. No joy, although I did loose something small, I was busy cooking garlic burgers and the fish got into the weeds. Being a coarse man, I did not have barbed hooks, and it slippe doff.
After a decent lunch we made our way bact to the cra park, stopping of course for some ice cream, and headed of to Chesil, West Bexington, as I have friends who live there.
We tossed a coin and head to the west, the beach was pretty crowded, but we found space for 3 after about 200m.
I was delighted to have a fish on my second cast, and it was also the christeding of my Telebeach outfit I treated myself to about 2 years ago.
JP soon joined in the action with some mackies, sadly Fi could not get a fish all afternoon, whihc wound her up.
We snagged a few more, one time JP managed to have a 'full house', is that the term?.

Moi, wading out into the breakers for an extra few yards.

Fi, Trying hard, but not being rewarded. Sadly JP and I had about 20 mackies right next too her.
JP, getting a good bend in his rod.

Full House

I did loose something which joined a mackie on its way in, did'nt take line, but put a fair old bend on the rod, then it was gone.
About 7.50 JP hollared out 'Seal!', we looked up, saw nothing, then it sufaced in front of Fi. We thought that this beasts attentions would put the fish off and packed up. So we headed to my frinds house on the hill, sat in theor garden eating chicken wings watching the sun go down.

Sounds a great way to spend a summers day Matt. That sea looks inviting....

Re: Lulworth and Chesil

Sounds like a fun day & fishies to boot.
Not too sure about the wading out though. Was there much tow underfoot?
Lets hope the summer hasn't finished already.

Re: Lulworth and Chesil

Under tow was not bad, more a case of the pebbles shifting and gritty bits getting into my sandles. I was in the water up to my ankles, it was only the waves which went higher. When I began I used the rod but to feel the sea bed in front of me. I would always advise caution before wading, use a rod but as a staff, always be with friends etc. As I could see the botton, also there was a large rock, (too big for the light surf to dislodge) to act as a guide spot.
With the heat it was nice and refreshing. Plenty of mackies in the freezer for this years pike campaign.
