A June week in Seaton.

A hard week fishwise, with short nights & fewer bites.
Will keep it as brief as possible

Sat 20th.
Arrived in Seaton Via Exmouth (crabs & matching his’n’hers floaties) mid afternoon and settled into flat on the esplanade.
Started fishing around 20:00 (crab on both rods) on a dropping tide and eventually got a bite just around midnight.
K pulled in a little smoothy

& that was it for the night . Not an auspicious start to the holiday.

Sun 21st
Similar pattern to Saturday night – all out for hound – 1 bite around midnight. My turn this time a little starry hound.

Fished till 2 ish

Mon 22nd
Sought local advice for a venue that fishes over low, THANKS Dave, and deposited ourselves at Charmouth ready for a monster walk to the landslip. It’s not that far actually... were fishing by 19:30 and playing boule with pebbles by 21:00. As darkness fell the water disappeared & we marched off down the beach in chase. Twice. K picked up 3 pout, losing something heavy (must have been an enormous pout) & I snaffled a little bass,

needed the photo for the hunt. Carried on till about 03:00.

Tues 23rd
Back to Seaton beach again.
More fish tonight, probably because K used mackerel as bait. 2 doggies (1 on a pop up) and a bonus Scad on the pop up.

Only fished till midnight as I was shattered.

Wed 24th
Holidays aren’t all about fishing....honest.
We went to visit the Wonkey Donkey Sanctuary. Fantastic place – If you get a chance drop in and take a stroll – DO SO. Isn’t she gorgeous?

Back to the fishing.
Met up with Pingu & BaggieRich at Branscome, helped pick up Some of Jasons beads and generally hoped for fish. K helped herself to a doggie and a cute little Huss,

then as P&R left I caught up with another monster Huss

& one of his lesser spotted cousins..

Thu 25th
Jacobs Ladder (Sidmouth)
We both blanked here – I’m sure we could have done better if we had stayed , but waving 15ft of Carbon fibre around with lightening crackling above didn’t seem like a good idea.

Fri 26th
Last night of the hols, probably should have given the gruesome twosome a call & sorted something out, but could only be bothered to fall out of the door & across the road to the beach. Went to the top secret mark (dead in front of the flat) and started to fish. Roughest night of the week & surprisingly the first mackerel, caught enough for bait in 3 casts.
Worm was being stripped fractionally slower than the Mack chunks/strips & crab remained pretty much untouched. Something about midnight in Seaton, a knock on my crab rod which I promptly missed left it a couple of minutes and no more knocks. Wound it back in to check the bait & a great heavy lump of weed appeared to be attached. BIG SMILE the weed pulled back. After a little battle involving the anti reverse, a shingle bank, a pair of sandals and clunked knuckles I landed the weeks main target.

Well chuffed. Went just over 7lb and zoomed back off safely.
As usual for Seaton this week no more bites followed. Packed up just after 01:00.
Back home now to the real life, washing machine on the blink & new Fridge Freezer required.
Thanks for taking the trouble to read.
P.

Re: A June week in Seaton.

Well done guys. Great to meet you again, shame the fishing wasn't as frantic as it can be, but hey, Seaton's saving itself for the 18th... I hope.

I love the pic of the Friday hound mate... It's like you can't quite believe what you've just pulled out of the sea! Superb.

See you both in a couple of weeks.
