| hard night at Branksome Well I managed to get a night on Branksome beach. Turned up early and had a bit of a picnic, and when everyone had gone home I set up and had a go to see what was there. There were 8 other anglers on the beach. I was fishing live peeler crab on one rod, squid and rag cocktail on another, and a small spinning rod in the surf with rag on too. First hour was quiet, then I had a smashing bite on the spinning rod, the tip went round and I felt a good heavy weight on the end kicking and going. Then it went slack line and I lost it. I guess it was a good bass by the fight and the fact it was in the surf. Then it was quiet for the rest of the night. Everyone else packed up at low tide, some small pout was all they had, I was still blank at this point, I stuck it out and fished up the tide, when it was about halfway in at 4-30 in the morning. I was rewarded with some good bites on the rag baits again, one of these I landed and had a 10 inch schoolie  the bites dried up and at 6 I packed up and headed home. The venue was good, just a distinct lack of fish, I think it is one I will have to try on a good spring tide. It is clear sand, no snags and no crab or weed problems. I think it will be an occasional spot to try to see what it will offer in the right conditions. __________________ Life is understood looking backwards, but it must be lived forwards.     |

| Re: hard night at Branksome I have heard that they pumped a load of sand out of southbourne to make the surf reef at boscombe, and that the rays have all but disappeared from there.
