Re: kent coast i have been 2 or 3 times recently without too much success,a fellow kent based forum-ite john-boy has been a few times, generally whiting are the predominant species with codling being rather thin on the ground, i think you are probably more likely to get a codling during the day if you go to dover's breakwater or admiralty, deal pier could be worth a chuck as well, any of the deeper water venues, if you are going at night, deal pier again ,maybe dungeness or perhaps one of the best would be kingsdown , usually the best baits are yellowtails and dungie blacks with squid always worth a go. once you have decided where to go i'm sure we can help you further,

Re: kent coast good choice martin, i'm a great fan of dungie, this time of year it is a very popular venue so you have made a good decision going in the week, firstly watch where you park, you don't want to incur the wrath of the locals, there is a good parking area by the pub, i think the favourite place to fish would probably be the point,if you walk across the shingle until you have lined up both lighthouses then you are more or less on the point, the tide can be quite strong there so make sure you have some 6oz gemini leads or something similar, you are in deep water there so there is no need to go crazy and try casting for the horizon,i like to be a little bit conservative on my casting down there to make sure i get maximum bait presentation, you will get by with blow lug or yellows, mackerel and squid,i have done well on frozen peeler down there as well bear in mind it is a good spot for bass, they never really go away down dungie(i caught 2 down there last christmas) if the wind is too severe from the s.w (as it often is),you can get quite sheltered on the eastern side of the point down by the trawlers,it is not so deep there but a lot more comfortable in a south-westerly hoolie, hope that is of some help mate, best of luck. ![]()

Re: kent coast Hi mate, If you're going to Dungeness, I'm not sure it makes a great deal of difference where you decide to pitch up along the beach there, it's pretty good all the way along. I've always favoured the "end of the boats", i.e. where the fishing boats stop - since there's a track that goes across, that's easier to walk on than the stones! In fact, last time I went there, it was open as there's some construction work going on, and you can drive right across, more or less fishing out of the back of the car. As far as baits go, I'd agree 100% with Paul - Rolled black lug or yellowtails (if you can get them) are the men for Cod, I think, together with Squid. It's probably worth fishing 2 rods at least, one of which I'd keep close-ish in, with whole squid on it, as there's still late-season Bass about, I believe. I'm sure you'll get plenty of Whiting down there over the top of the tide, Codling if you're lucky during the day, but there's also Pouting, Doggies and Dabs about too. It's always worth taking some Peeler too, if you can get hold of it. Last night on Deal pier, the baits to have were yellows and squid. Best of luck, matey - let us know how you get on. Cheers, JB.

Re: kent coast I fished Broadstairs and Ramsgate Mon-Tue Day and night. Tiny bass, monkfish, plaice, ling, whiting, codling. Amazed at every thing being so small (must be what falls through the spanish trawler nets). Anyway the crabs destroy anything along that stretch in 15 mins so it's really hard going. The locals were saying that thier taking a few decent whiting at night off the harbour wall.
