lee on solent. butterflys n bootlaces

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
it looked like it was gonna be a good night weatherwise & i really wanted to go to chesil or the bournemouth beaches but to do it properly i needed top quality fish baits which i didn't have & wern't likely to get.
but fortunately on days with southampton high water between 0000 & 0200 i can dig some fresh rag with the light evenings
in the summer months, & maybe find a crab or 2
so by 20.00 i'd dug 1/2-2/3lb o worm & found 2 doz crabs as a bonus.
most of my fishing is specie hunt based & i've already got my hounds, so i wern't that fussed , but the crab was an extra string to my bow , if nothing else doing i could still play with the hounds if about.
so i sat there , watching the early flood at lepe & thought- windy, choppy , shallow & weedy. Naaaaaaaaaaa.
so where do i go? and for what?
i grabbed a kebab on the way back north as i'd had a wee thought about mag lane & eels which i've yet to catch.
i got as far as parking the car up but at that point lost interest
just couldn't be arsed to lug all my kit through/around or over those new houses, i know there's a chance of a variety of species from along that venue but i just hate the place.

i looked at hill head wall to see who was there, just one guy i did not recognise, & a couple on the spit.
i could have fished just where i would have liked to but i was feeling a bit sh*gged and needed a bit o beach to lie down on

i set up and fished monks hill, the tide was just starting to rise between the groynes and it looked good, not a bite for the 1st hour & i could feel myself nodding off
and so backed the clutches right off and had a short kip under my rod rest so as i'd get woken by rod getting pulled over ( it ud fall on me.)

woke at midnight , still 2 hours b4 h/w though the wind had dropped and the sea was like a millpond.
so i fished on with renewed vigor, well i was sat up instead of crashed out

it was rather slow , i saw 4 bites , hooked 3 fish & beached 2.

the first was a butterfly thornie

the second was a bootlace,

both good for the hunt i think

the 3rd i lost on the retreive, just b4 sunrise, looked like a chequer but i'll never know.

i quit at 04.30 & left for home, least it was noblank this time

yes the wriggly wwrecked my rig, yes the wriggleyb wrecked my rigg,

bugger saying it, thats bad enough to type.

i've fished nearly every week since new year & am approaching near 50% blanks . (edit
hang fire on that i just noticed its now 33.33% matching 2007 which was a very good year, there's hope yet.)

i'm a little 'fished out' & this poor performance is starting to bug me giveing me no confidence in planning&venue selection.
its a bit like that fear of failure prob that dart players get where by they hang the shot and can't let go the arra.

fishing hard though feb/march does nothing to help statistics but it does get me out the house

Re: lee on solent. butterflys n bootlaces

I know exactly what you mean about fishing hard in Feb/Mar for little reward Gord. Dave and I fished just as much through those months as we have in the last couple and your right, it does nothing to help the blanks %. Still, all gotta be better than Eastenders eh? Oh and forget the size mate, feel the points...

Nice one..
