| A quick trip to Swanage on the front. Well it has been a while, but today I finally managed to get out and wet a line. We took trip down to Swanage today, with a grey and rainy start the day was not looking too good, but luckily I had grabbed the sea gear from my Lok'n'Store where it has been languishing since I moved back to Poole. With only one rod, 5 quids worth of rag and a couple of hours free time I was determined to have a go, well the positioning was not the best, but what the hell! I found a parking space right up the far end towards the pier, with a tiny patch of beach and some boat moorings infront of me, so between the showers I managed to set up a rod and get some tackle organised, a simple flatty rig. First cast was a bit short, but at least it was in the water, within a few minutes I saw some strange twitching, was it a bite or something else. I reeled in and behold, one of the hook links was missing!! I had hit spider crab central. I cast a few more times , finally getting some range, and managed to get away from the crabs, having caught a couple large enough to come home for someone's tea. Then I was getting tiny little twitches and the odd big knock, bait nibbled to the hook, I had found some wrasse. This was confirmed when I finally managed to land one, considering I was on 1/0 hooks this was no mean feat ![]() ![]() I am not sure which one it is as I have not seen one this colour before, I think it might be a ballan wrasse, but I am sure someone will tell me. That was it for the day, not a blank, a nice couple of hours in a not too promising spot, and some crabs for the pot. Hopefully I will get a few more more trips really soon. __________________ Life is understood looking backwards, but it must be lived forwards. |

| Re: A quick trip to Swanage on the front. with throop 4 miles away, and a ringwood ticket that runs until christmas, I am hoping for a few evenings after work down on the river, and I still have the free lake at rockley only 3 miles away. But I do hope to do a bit more sea fishing, even looking at a 4 hour evening trip on true blue, again an after work job. Just need to find the boat rods, as they seem to have vanished. __________________ Life is understood looking backwards, but it must be lived forwards. |
