| experimentation, thats my excuse. burton bradstock 5th june thursdays excursion got cancelled due to a plea from my daughter to give a hand with her homework, all of it, since last september, that she couldn't be arsed to do at the time , but still could find. 5 hours later job done but missed the tide at hurst by a long chalk. this earned a day pass from the fpo i woke still feeling a bit rough ( awaiting more blood test results but thoughts of bass ,mackerel and maybe garfish , pollock, wrasse who knows what else? got me loading the car and setting off to burton bradstock.from the outset i thought that in the past, once i'd found out what this beach is like , i almost always have fished to the left , on the cleaner ground but today with thoughts of the wrasse & more variety i'd fish into the reef on the right for a change and experiment with a few ideas about fishing rough ground. for bait i had 3 old mackerel , hey its chesil, i'll catch some fresh. (note to self - never believe that last statement.) and a box of squid + a handful of whitebait which missed the fryer. high tide was for 5pmish and the weather was warm, over cast and calm, southeasterly breeze though. the first minor upset was the carpark which used to be cheap and attended. though on the other hand a lot of work has been done to upgrade it all this season with fresh gravel all neatly rolled in & rows all devided by rails it looks smart , but now has a ticket machine, i guess the attendant got layed off. For info -tarrif now is £4 for 8 hours , £5 all day.[b]and it is all day , not 24hours , the ticket will expire at midnight which just might cause a prob for anglers who fish overnight.[b] the minor upset was i had to sod off and get some more change for the machine b4 i started .i fished from 2pm till 8pm just before the right hand cliff. rigs were basically , 2 hook flapper/ 3 hook flapper (blinged) and a good old flowing trace. oh and i had the slidey float out for a macky or gar from time to time + a flick about with a dexter or feathers. fishing in daylight is slow at the best of times and it didn't take long for me to get bored. 2 other anglers braved the reef to my right while 15 or so went left towards my usual mark. saw no fish caught at all while i was there. long story short- experiment went reasonsably well, lost 3 rigs and 1 lead but unfortunately caught no fish just 3 spiders, the only bites i saw were from the crabs or i assume so coz thats what i retrieved. by 8 pm i was feeling rough again & it was time to go, might throw up a piccy if my mini usb lead resurfaces , bloody kids i suspect. __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |
