Smile nearly lost a lung omg

last night I was out with my mate carl, who only fishes when the makkie are in

firstly decided jacobs as not fished there for a while
then due to a huge tractor and trailer going into the lanes i decided naa branscombe
then just to add to confusion decided to try a small beach just before, i had been told was a bit of a trek, but undeterred i just slung the usual seatbox and backpack on( inc kitchen sink ) and away we went

now the walk is about 3/4 mile to the steps and a mile in total ( all downhill on way there so you knows whats comeing on the way back then ) infact towards the end steps get quite steep

thats hopefully the barges takeing away last of napoli soon, out too sea there
undeteered ( well it was too late now) we reached the beach, and wow what a beach and the whole of it too ourselves

looking east( thats the hill we came down at the back

looking west

set up 3 rods on ledgered baits ( all small hooks just scratching) and used 4th rod for my mate to play with the makiie

was just going over to talk with mate, when the small single bass rod in left stand crashed out of the stand and headed rapidly towards the sea( was a 2 hook flapper size 4 cas 30ft out hunting bream)

I followed the rods skidmark down the beach

grabbed it and oh yes fish on

well it didnt take long to realise this was not a bream and soon i had a 4lb(est ) bass inches from my feet( i could see all its back 1/2 out water) when whallop the hook straightened and i lost it oh well, time to sit and ponder what may have been my first keeper bass in over 18months, oh well

after that it was 1 doggie on crab, no hounds came to play,

left later than planned and didnt fancy the walk as we looked back up this

but didnt seem half as bad as expected, although i've got a well bruised shoulder from the seatbox strap( definately a ruckie next time) and when i sat in car i thought the airbag had gone off infront of me but was actually my lungs desperate attempt at re oxygenation

a great venue , which i'm sure will produce and definately needs to be repeated, but maybe not tonight

dave

Re: nearly lost a lung omg

It's worth coming on here just to read your reports and see your pics.
I used to do trecks like that near Bull Bay in North Wales, unfortunately I'm past that now.
I once ran 1/1/2 miles to use a phone for the coast guard after some divers lost their inflateable while below the waves. It turned out I was call number eleven about the same incident.
Keep up the good work.

Re: nearly lost a lung omg

No thanks!

But I'm not "that" unfit. Did the 45 mile Ten Tors event when I were a lad (ok, 1997...) but I can still walk a fair way for the right place. Doesn't quite compare to the 100 yards you need to walk when on budleigh seafront though.
