big smut

found this on wsf would love to have caught this in the yak.

Just smashed the shore record smoothound!!! Report and pictures!!!
As above, I can hardly type as I'm still buzzing!

Fished Sandy point tonight looking for a big Smut knowing there have been fish up to 18lb caught there yesterday.

Was about 10 people fishing in all, all had Smuts, a couple over 10lb but wernt weighed, I was getting annoyed as I just couldn't seem to connect with them, Had a couple good bites and missed them, but did land a couple Bass just over 2lb so was still chuffed.

But I wasn't expecting my last bite, just as the tide started ripping back in, had a good pull down then just as I lifted into it, it went slack and I had to reel like a mad man to try and catch up with it, was winding in, felt the weight and hit it hard to set the hook and all went solid!

Thought id got snagged, then the fish started little runs and banging its head, there was a huge weight, but wasn't running like Id of expected to, anyway after about 10 minuets of pumping and winding this huge weight it was around 15 yards out and hugging bottom, not running like smut do, just taking lunges and peeling off 5 yards or so, I was sure I had hooked a huge Ray, but as it got closer I saw it was a Smut, but couldn't really see just how big it was, but heard mates shouting its F.....G HUGE!

I had a bit of weed in the leader knot, so had to walk back and get mates to tail it in for me, When I saw it on the beach I couldn't believe it, it was an absolute monster, and cant repeat the words I said.

This fish needed weighing, so I ran up the beach and grabbed the weigh sling id made, put it on the scales (salter electro sampson), zeroed it and weighed the beauty............................................ .................................

28lb 10oz!!!!!!

I was gob smacked and could hardly believe my eyes.
